Animals, my biggest passion always!
One of my stories...
so while living in NM a little over a year ago...one of our feral outdoor cats was pregnant for the second time. The first time she disappeared before I could do anything and came back later on just her and no babies. I never knew what happened. This time around I was determined to try and help. She had trusted me enough for me to be able to pet her and give her treats and so one day when she was pregnant and about to pop soon I went out there with a kennel and she just let me gently put her in it without a fight. I brought her into our spare bedroom. I was able to reach a rescue about 3hrs away that talked me through the whole process and made sure I had everything I needed in that room for her and the babies. The plan was to keep them until ready for adoption, but due to unseen circumstances and me having to move back to NY when the kittens were only about a month old...the rescue was kind enough to have someone drive to me and pick them up and bring to a foster that took over the rest of the process.
And I was so grateful for everything this rescue did for me. They were there before she gave birth, checked in daily, answered all questions, sent me food that they paid for and then provided transport to the fosters house and when ready got them all adopted out including the momma as soon as they were ready.
In the area of NM we lived in the stray animal and animal cruelty is at a very high and daily heartbreaking level. I did what I could while i was there. Thanks to my roommate at the time allowing me to do so which I was also grateful for.
I got to bring in a feral who turned to be the sweetest feral I'd ever met. I got to watch her give birth and take care of them daily for that first month. And even tho cut short it was one of the most amazing experiences I got to be a part of and witness. Watching all the firsts as the babies grew...like their eyes opening on day 9 and their first steps...
And watch Sage be the best momma to those kittens!
This may seem little but this was one of my proudest accomplishments and memories!
