Monarchs Dutchman getting back into shape in the jumper ring for the first time this year! He decided the .90m jump height was merely a suggestion and earned his 3rd and 5th place out of lots of other ponies!

Hi friends! Long time no update! Just a quick note on things currently going on in life 😁 Collette and Marley have moved to Virginia for those that don’t know. Collette is working for two time Olympic medalist Tad Coffin outside of Charlottesville, and Marley is managing and riding for Stoke Farm in Middleburg. For now this page will probably be updates on personal horses and any sales horses we have. Miss and love everyone from the Monarch Crew and wishing everyone well! 💕

We want to wish a very heartfelt congratulations to Kathryn Haas on her purchase of G’ Alexander RSH!! Kathryn has been leasing AL for 2 1/2 years and is about to set off on her adventure of going to Berry College in Georgia. As she was preparing for college, she couldn’t picture it without AL there, so now both Kathryn and AL get to be freshmen together! We are so happy that they get to continue their story together, and are very thankful to Emma Fogler Stewart at Across Town Farm for helping her make this dream her reality. Photo dump of Kathryn and AL for the memories 💕

We had a great time in Aiken last weekend! It was super hot but luckily we caught a break with some light cool rain during our rounds on Saturday and a 7am start time on Sunday for a cool morning.

Kathryn and G’ Alexander RSH were champion of both their jumper divisions this ! Extremely bittersweet as this will be Katrhyn’s last show before show goes off to college in August!

Mia and SiriousMoonlite Were Reserve Champion of both their jumper divisions! Mia is on a serious reserve champion roll!

Isabella and Serrius Black had great ribbons in both of their jumper divisions and got great mileage for their 2nd off property jumper show!

We took “When Our Eyez Met” (Daryl) and “Miss Miami” (Zeena) off property for the first time to Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE), in Tryon, and had a blast!

Daryl competed in his first ever show and won 3rd place in his first over fences class and 3rd in his flat out of about 10 horses! He was calm, cool, and collected the whole time and tried his heart out doing things he’d never done before! It’s only up from here 😁

Zeena won her 2’6 jumper class and got in some good schooling at 2’9, there weren’t any other 2’9ers so safe to say she got 1st 🤣 but regardless, she was there to get off property experience so gold star for her!

Clips in the video are Daryl OF and US with one of Z’s 2’9 rounds at the end!

Couldn’t have had a better weekend at the Harmon Classics show at Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort! It was a huge show with 500+ horses making for fun competition!

⭐️Lyla and Red Skies at Night competed in the puddle jumpers in their second ever off site show and received great ribbons, always in the top 10 in classes of 20+ entries!
⭐️Mia and SiriousMoonlite were Reserve Champion in the 2’9 Progressive Jumpers!
⭐️Ryann and Serrius Black had several top ribbons in both 2’9 jumper divisions and were so glad Ryann could join us!
⭐️Marley and Monarchs Dutchman competed at 2’9 for the first time earning top ribbons and having lots of fun!
⭐️Kathryn and G’ Alexander RSH got to get back into the 2’9 and eared great ribbons after some time off for AL while Kathryn graduated highschool!

All girls and horses were always in the top 10 placings in classes of 20+, and the show ponies have earned their time off this week!

Can’t wait for the next show!

Hey Mocksville/Davie area friends! I am beginning my search for a rental home in the area! Looking for a 1+ bedroom place within 30min/mile that would allow pets (1 small and 1 medium dog). Pets are very well behaved and would go to work with me! Very clean tenant and have plenty of references! If you know of anything or any ideas where to look please feel free to reach out.

Things your riding instructor wants you to know:
1. This sport is hard. You don't get to bypass the hard…..every good rider has gone through it. You make progress, then you don't, and then you make progress again. Your riding instructor can coach you through it, but they cannot make it easy.

2. You're going to ride horses you don't want to ride. If you're teachable, you will learn from every horse you ride. Each horse in the barn can teach you if you let them. IF YOU LET THEM. Which leads me to…

3. You MUST be teachable to succeed in this sport. You must be teachable to succeed at anything, but that is another conversation. Being teachable often means going back to basics time and time and time again. If you find basics boring, then your not looking at them as an opportunity to learn. Which brings me to…..

4. This sport is a COMMITMENT. Read that, then read it again. Every sport is a commitment, but in this sport your teammate weighs 1200 lbs and speaks a different language. Good riders don't get good by riding every once in awhile….they improve because they make riding a priority and give themsevles opportunity to practice.

5. EVERY RIDE IS AN OPPORTUNITY. Even the walk ones. Even the hard ones. Every. Single. Ride. Remember when you just wished someone would lead you around on a horse? Find the happiness in just being able to RIDE. If you make every ride about what your AREN'T doing, you take the fun out of the experience for yourself, your horse, and your instructor. Just enjoy the process. Which brings me to...

6. Riding should be fun. It is work. and work isn't always fun.....but if you (or your rider) are consistently choosing other activities or find yourself not looking forward to lessons, it's time to take a break. The horses already know you don't want to be here, and you set yourself up for failure if you are already dreading the lesson before you get here.

7. You'll learn more about horses from the ground than you ever will while riding. That's why ground lessons are important, too. If you're skipping ground lessons (or the part of your lesson that takes place on the ground), you're missing out on the most important parts of the lesson. You spend far more time on the ground with horses than you do in the saddle.

8. Ask questions and communicate. If you're wondering why your coach is having you ride a particular horse or do an exercise, ask them. Then listen to their answer and refer to #3 above.

9. We are human beings. We make decisions (some of them life and death ones) every day. We balance learning for students with workloads for horses and carry the bulk of this business on our shoulders. A little courtesy goes a long way.

Of all the sports your child will try through their school years, riding is one of 3 that they may continue regularly as adults (golf and skiing are the others). People who coach riding spend the better part of their free time and much of their disposable income trying to improve their own riding and caring for the horses who help teach your child. They love this sport and teaching others…..but they all have their limits. Not all good riders are good coaches, but all good coaches will tell you that the process to get good is not an easy one.

*thank you to whoever wrote this! Not my words, but certainly a shared sentiment!
