Meet Posty — named after Post Malone — a lovable Golden Retriever with a talent for keeping everyone on their toes. 🐾
On May 9th, while visiting Pennsylvania from West Virginia, Posty got scared and went missing. His humans, Kurt and Meghan, were devastated and searching tirelessly for their boy.
On May 10th, they reached out to us for help. That very night, we met up and began searching. For three long hours Jim flew the thermal drone low and slow through the darkness, hoping to catch even the faintest sign of Posty.
While Jim was flying, Ashley was out flyering neighborhoods, physically searching, posting on social media, networking with volunteers, and connecting with community members to spread the word as far and wide as possible.
Nothing.
But nobody stopped working. Flyers went up everywhere, the Amish community was alerted, neighbors spread the word, and an incredible network of people came together to help bring Posty home.
Then came a heartbreaking setback.
The next day, Kurt and Meghan became victims of a cruel scam. Someone used AI to generate a fake photo of Posty lying on a table at a vet’s office. Desperate and hopeful, Kurt paid their asking price and rushed there… only to find out Posty had never been there at all. The emotional toll was unimaginable.
Still, nobody gave up.
On May 16th, we headed back out to search again. This time, local volunteer and trapper Carole joined the effort, setting trail cameras and creating an irresistible scent trail of liquid smoke, BBQ sauce, and hot dogs.
That night was one for the books.
We created a home base near a cow field. Questionable choice in retrospect. They watched and mooed with curiosity. Carole noticed one had a bag stuck in its mouth so, in true fashion, Carole army crawled under the electric fence to help the cow 🐄 Cow was saved. Woo!
Near the end of the drone flight, Jim spotted a MASSIVE heat signature. Excitement skyrocketed. Kurt and Meghan rushed off to investigate while the drone limped home on low battery… before landing into a freshly manured field. Naturally, Jim took off sprinting through the darkness to retrieve it.
At that exact moment, local resident Bob — who does human search and rescue — launched his own drone overhead to light the way. For one very confusing second, standing alone in a manure field with a spotlight shining down from the sky, Jim genuinely questioned whether he was being abducted by aliens. 👽😂
Drone recovered. Pride questionable.
A few minutes later Kurt and Meghan returned to home base to report on that “huge heat signature.”
It was a boulder.
A very warm, very convincing boulder.
As the days passed, we discussed bringing in Carmen with Professional Pet Trackers to assist with a professional track. Plans were made for May 22nd.
But Posty apparently had his own timeline.
At 8:20 PM on May 21st, Kurt received a call about a possible sighting. Hope returned immediately. We all prepared to begin tracking first thing the next morning.
At 7:18 AM, Jim texted the group, “Good vibes today guys!”
Then at 7:20 AM… Posty decided he was done being missing. It is his 4th birthday after all 🎂
Instead of waiting for us, he attempted to casually sneak into someone’s house. Thankfully, a kind neighbor named Daniel had seen one of the flyers and immediately recognized him. Daniel safely secured Posty in his garage, called Kurt right away, provided fresh food, water, and photo proof to reassure Kurt and Meghan that their boy was finally safe.
We were the first to arrive and see Posty in person.
And WOW… what an adventure this dog had clearly been on. Mud. Manure. Mystery substances. He was filthy, exhausted, unbelievably happy, and still VERY ready to party. Tail wagging nonstop. Pure joy.
We secured him safely outside in the fresh air and stayed in contact with Kurt and Meghan as they made the drive from West Virginia.
When they finally arrived, Posty exploded into whimpers, wiggles, and tail wags. The reunion was everything everyone had hoped for.
Now Posty is home where he belongs — freshly bathed, deeply loved, and probably plotting his next adventure already. ❤️
This reunion would not have happened without teamwork, networking, community support, volunteers, neighbors, and people who genuinely cared. Cases like this remind us how powerful human connection can be.
Welcome home, Posty. 🐾
We would like to give a special thank you to Carole Lowry, Carmen Brothers, Andrea Bokesch, and especially Kurt Bokesch and Meghan Kessler 🖤
