Some days wildlife rescue means knowing exactly what you’re looking at…
and other days it turns into a full blown bird identity crisis. 😂🦅
Red tail? Cooper’s? Red-shouldered? Swainson’s?
At this point this baby is just “hawk-shaped.”
Regardless of the final ID, this little fluff nugget is safe, cared for, and it’s exactly where it needs to be. 💛

Spent part of my day helping keep these baby ravens cool and hydrated in this heat, and I swear they were genuinely enjoying every second of it. 🖤
The little coos, the playing in the water, the way they kept coming back for more. They looked SO happy. Moments like this remind me that wildlife doesn’t always need some grand heroic act from us. Sometimes they just need someone willing to stop, pay attention, and care enough to help them get through a rough day.
Watching them play honestly healed a little piece of my soul today. There’s something so special about earning the trust of wild animals, even for a brief moment.
These babies were full of personality and definitely let me know they approved of the sprinkler spa treatment. 😂🖤🐦

Sometimes rescue work is just one small part of a much bigger journey. 🖤🌿
This little opossum was picked up by another volunteer from the rescue yesterday, and today I had the honor of helping with his final step — freedom.

No matter how small the role is, every transport, every handoff, and every release matters. Seeing him disappear back into the grass exactly where he belongs was such a good feeling.

Stay wild, little dude. ✨

Bri has officially been promoted from tiny rescue baby to full-blown ChickU tenant 😭🐥
This little girl has grown so much that she now has the ENTIRE ChickU all to herself! We tried introducing the silkies, but everyone decided roommate life wasn’t for them 😂 So for now, Queen Bri gets her penthouse suite while we wait for some new babies to hatch soon. Honestly I think she’s going to make the sweetest big sister. 🥹 She already acts so curious and confident, and soon she’ll have little chicks following her around while she teaches them how to scratch, snack, and properly commit tiny chicken crimes. Watching this once fragile little rescue turn into such a strong, sassy girl has been one of the coolest journeys ever. 💛🐣

Last night’s episode included:
• crawling into a tight crawl space
• discovering a dead coyote (0/10 experience)
• getting skunked
• trying to locate possible babies under a house
• one very offended tiny skunk mama
• questionable life choices
• and me somehow still laughing through all of it

All jokes aside, this little girl has an injured foot and needed help. Wildlife rescue is not always glamorous. Sometimes it’s dirt, smells, adrenaline, heartbreak, and doing uncomfortable things because an animal needs someone to show up for them.🦨

No chicken posts today but these are all the beautiful babies I was blessed to have a small hand in helping today💕 a Raven, a Scrub Jay, and a Barn Owl! I am so grateful to be a part of the team at Tehachapi Volunteer Wildlife Transport! They do amazing things to help our California critters!!

Our special girl is doing SO good 🤍🐓
Her swelling has gone down and she’s been up, active, and living her best little Snozberry life 😭
I brought her inside last night because it was super windy… and let me tell you… she was NOT having it 😂
Apparently she’s a daytime lover and a nighttime hater 😆
