Charlotte had a successful Carter County Fair showing her Netherland Dwarf bunbuns. She won Grand Junior Showman and Reserve breeding doe with Elizabeth. Commodore did good for her as well.
Charlotte even got to see one of Elizabeth's babies "Pitch" show and get a best of Class!

We tried our best for 6 days. But unfortunately our little miracle passed this morning. So heartbreaking for Charlotte.

The heat wave we're going through has been brutal for the bunnies. Charlotte has lost 2 one was a doe, Silver, that began to kindle and passed after giving birth to 2 kits. One kit passes within hours. But we have one that is a fighter! We have been syringe feeding every 10 to 12 hours with goat milk replacer, and made it a nest in a stocking cap stuffed with clean sheep wool and some of the does hair.
It's a feisty little baby and i hope we can keep it alive! We're 4 days in and doing ok so far so fingers crossed!

It has been so hot the last few days that frozen water bottles and fans have not been enough for the bunbuns. We have them all crammed into the house for the days its been 100°+ and they are comfortable even if they're cramped.

Rabbits cannot sweat and rely on panting and airflow across their ears to help cool them down. Exposure to extreme temperatures can be deadly. Saturday was our first hot day and we thought everyone was doing well until the evening when the kids noticed Squirmy was acting strange. Unfortunately he passed away soon after. After that we took the task of keeping everyone as comfortable as possible.

Thankfully our efforts have kept everyone else alive! It has been exhausting but informative as well.

And I will be shampooing my living room carpet!

Charlotte demonstrated how to show a Netherland Dwarf. She was completely new to showing last year but pulled off winning a lot of ribbons! She mostly watched YouTube videos to find all the showing information. Commodore is getting back into showing shape and was a little spicy.

This bunch of kits are officially weaned and ready to go home. Charlotte can bring them with tomorrow to Jeannine's horse practice for those who want to grab them at the fairgrounds.
They are eating Purina pellets, Timothy hay and drinking from a bowl. I have introduced them to a bottle but they aren't keen on it so a water bowl is preferred.
Each kit will come with an information sheet with their birth date, breed, weaning weight and other pertinent information for fair.
