Vol: 7 – “Legs for Days… and Sometimes, a Few Less”

Let’s talk legs. Jumping spiders may be known for their eight fabulous floofy limbs, but here’s a secret:
They don’t need all of them to live a full, fierce life. 💅🦵

💧 Spood Science: The Hydraulic System
Spiders don’t move their legs with muscles alone — they use hydraulic pressure.
Their bodies pump hemolymph (spider blood) into their limbs to extend them, like tiny, pressure-powered straws.
Lose a leg? The pressure adjusts, the system reroutes, and they keep on jumping.

🦿 When Legs Go Missing
Jumpers can drop limbs during a bad molt, injury, or stressful encounter. It’s called autotomy, and it’s a defense mechanism.

💬 But will they be okay?
Yes — especially if they’re still growing.

✨ Spoods can regenerate lost limbs across future molts:
• Baby and juvenile jumpers regrow faster and more completely
• New legs might look shorter, thinner, or paler at first
• Over time (and molts), they’ll catch up

💪 ATX Jumpers Has Seen It All
We’ve had jumpers thrive with 7, 6, even 5 legs, and yes — some even missing a pedipalp or two.
And guess what?
They lived long, happy, healthy lives, still hunting, webbing, and showing off like the tiny champions they are. 👑🕷️

🛠️ If Your Spood Loses a Limb:
• Keep the enclosure safe and easy to climb
• Offer smaller prey that’s easy to catch
• Minimize stress and don’t handle
• Wait and watch for magic: molting = healing

⚠️ Important:
Adult jumpers don’t molt — so if they’re fully mature, they won’t regrow lost limbs. But that doesn’t mean they’re doomed.

💜 Legs are great.
But resilience? That’s what really makes a spood shine.

So whether your jumper has eight legs or five — they’re still absolutely perfect in our book. 💫

Vol: 6– “Lights Out: Do Jumpers Need a Day/Night Cycle?”

✨ Spoods may not wear pajamas, but they still need a bedtime! ✨

Jumping spiders are diurnal, meaning they’re active during the day and rest at night — just like us (well, most of us). Mimicking a natural day/night light cycle helps keep your jumper’s internal clock healthy and their behavior balanced.

🔦 Too Much Light?
Leaving lights on 24/7 can cause stress, disrupt feeding, and mess with molting cycles. Think of it like living in a gas station bathroom — bright, constant, and not very cozy.

🌙 Too Little Light?
While jumpers don’t need high-powered UV bulbs, they do benefit from ambient room light or a gentle daylight bulb. Without enough light, they can become sluggish, miss prey, or even develop rhythm issues.

🕯️ ATX Tips:
• Use a 12-hour on / 12-hour off schedule
• Avoid direct, harsh lights — indirect lighting is spood-approved
• If using artificial lights, set a timer to mimic the sun
• Let your jumper rest at night – don’t poke, peek, or flash lights during their bedtime

⚖️ Light balance isn’t just for houseplants — your jumper’s health depends on it!
So when the sun goes down, let your lil’ eight-legged astronaut drift off into peaceful spood dreams. 💤💫
