🕸️ WEB OF WISDOM
Vol. 10 – Breathe Easy, Little Legs
by ATX Jumpers

Let’s talk about ventilation + humidity, two of the most important parts of jumper care!

🌬️ ALL jumping spiders need good airflow
Proper ventilation keeps mold away, helps with safe molts, and keeps your spood feeling fresh and healthy. Top and side vents are ideal!

💧 Humidity depends on the species
Each spider has different needs, but they all need good ventilation, even in high humidity setups.

📊 A digital hygrometer helps monitor humidity levels—no more guessing!

📌 Recommended Humidity Ranges
🕷 Phidippus regius – 65–75% (can go up to 80% during pre-molt)
🕷 Phidippus audax – 50–70%
🕷 Paraphidippus fartilis – 65-80 %(likes a warmer and humid climate)
🕷 Paraphidippus nikites – 20–40% (likes it dry!)

✅ Quick Tips for Success:
• Use cross-ventilated enclosures
• Keep an eye on humidity with a hygrometer
• Mist lightly and only when needed
• Let surfaces dry out fully between mistings
• No condensation or soggy walls

Jumpers don’t need a swamp or a desert. They need the right balance.

When we know better, we spood better 💜

Let’s Talk Enclosure Sizes – Cozy Cottages Over Spidey Mansions

We know this can be a hot topic, so let’s start with this:
These posts are not just opinion.
They’re built from a mix of research, hands-on experience, community feedback, science, and yes, a little spooder intuition too 🧠✨

So what’s the magic size?
For most jumpers, we recommend an enclosure no larger than 4”x6”.
Why? Because in our years of experience (both personally and as breeders), spiders housed in smaller, cozy enclosures are far more active, alert, and confident than those in large, open spaces.

Think of it like this:
🏡 Cozy cottage = Safe, enriching, easy-to-navigate space
🏰 Mansion = Confusing, overwhelming, hard to regulate temps/humidity, and harder for them to find their food

But wait – there are exceptions!
🌿 Wild-caught jumpers may need more space to adjust, as they’re used to big open ranges.
🕸️ Some individual spoods (just like us!) are more adventurous and may thrive with a bit more room.
🐜 Age, species, and even personality all play a role.

So while our general recommendation stands, we encourage you to get to know your spood and adjust based on their unique needs.

🧠 And here’s the real key: Daily Enrichment
Regardless of enclosure size, mental stimulation matters! Try things like:
• A spooder playground setup 🧗
• Supervised handling for the confident jumpers 🫶
• Enclosure-in-net play (open the door in a netted area with good light—perfect for shy or hands-off jumpers) 🌞🕸️
• Letting them watch you while you work—yes, they spy on us 👀

🕷️❤️Reminder! ❤️🕷️

We created the Web of Wisdom to help educate, not argue.
We’ve carefully curated every post with time, research, real-world experience, and lots of spider love 🕷️❤️
These posts are not AI-generated (though the art may be 🤷🏻‍♀️ )we take pride in presenting accurate, thoughtful, and helpful info for the community.

That said—we love constructive feedback!
If you’ve had different experiences or have more info to add, please share it with kindness. We’re always learning, and the web only gets stronger when we build it together.

🕸️ Stay curious, stay kind, and stay spood-tacular!
