I am so sad 😢, so very sad 😢. My FB friend Kerstyn Parent made the most unselfish decision to let her GSP pup Pongo cross the rainbow bridge. Pongo had lupus and it could have been prevented if testing had been done. Kerstyn advocates for testing and will help anyone and has helped Zoey in so many ways. She and Pongo have been so supportive of Zoey and myself, you cannot imagine.

From Maine to Michigan ❤❤❤

We said goodbye to Pongo yesterday after enjoying 4 hours in the sun and playing ball. It couldn't have been a more beautiful day for him to celebrate his last day in the World. He is now pain free and now can run in fields in the sun.
I know Dallas greeted him at the Bridge and they talked for hours, it was their game every night... talking back and forth for at least 10 minutes. He is also once again with his Lupus sister Pepper. He loved snuggling with Pepper as they both understood one another. When we camped with Peppers Owners, we would always put Pongo and Pepper in my camper and they would lay on the Bunk bed together. One time we covered Pepper with Pongo's Star Wars blanket, oh goodness did he have a fit! I has to give that blanket back to Pongo and grab a different one for Pepper.
We will continue to educate and spread awareness of ECLE and always help others with the knowledge we gained.
The Lupus did not end his life, we are pretty sure he was battling Prostate Cancer even though it wasn't showing in the blood test. We also were losing the battle to his Lick Granuloma.
It was the hardest decision ever to let him go, but honestly it was the right thing to do.
God Bless everyone that has helped us through this. We can't express our gratitude enough.
Thank you to Judit Punk for taking care of his page while we are trying to heal from this huge loss.
Thank you to my awesome friends who called, messaged, posted and prayed for us.
Thank you to Krystal Rector (who btw was Pongo's first FB follower) and Emily for being with me and Pongo yesterday.
Ken and I send our love to everyone! ❤

So Zoey had the neurological emergency and we made the difficult decision that she is on steroids. Tonight is the first night that she weans down to every other day...she remains feisty and full of attitude ❤️ And she demands peanut butter...go figure 😊

Zoey had an emergency trip to the vet in Lewiston today. She was unable to drink or eat and her tongue was hanging out the side of her month. Blood work came back "normal" for a dog with PF. She was sedated so her mouth could be examined...a few small lesions, no cancerous growth, so the doc thinks it is a neurological problem causing some paralysis. They gave her some IV fluids and an injection of prednisone. Brought our sleepy princess home, about an hours drive. Once home, her tongue was not hanging as much and she was slurping water as best she could. Couple pieces of chicken and off for a nap💤. Hoping the steroids continue to reduce the swelling and will then be looking for an acupuncturist. She is in good spirits with that cute little white tail just a wagging!

So now a few hours later, she has drank sugar water, eaten a small bowl of Whole Foods...strawberries, green beans, cheese and chicken....and a chunk of sweet potato hiding some pills....our tough little princess is fighting back.

Zoey says never give up...this is the season of hope💜

Vitamin D has made a HUGE difference in Zoey's energy Levels....recommend checking it out. Our other two dogs are also benefitting from drops in their food. Nutrition rules👍

Zoey went for a check up today and she had gained almost 5 pounds now from her lowest point. She is fighting a bit of an infection and is mid cycle with the PF so she will be treating with HeparSulph 200 and some UT Strength Stat that has been very successful in clearing up infection in the past. She also gave up a bit of blood to have her Vitamin D tested. The vet continues to be amazed by her progress. No steroids, lots of chicken broth. And Zoey continues to jump up on the furniture and run with the other dogs even if it is only for short distances. That tail just won't stop wagging. And at the end of the day, Zoey recommends an Epsom salt bath with lavender essential oil for aches and pains both canine and human❤️❤️❤️

Pongo's Mom Kerstyn Parent has given Zoey all sorts of good advice. Great article Getting the information out is so important because lupus, another autoimmune disease, can be tested for by responsible breeders.
