Stella passed suddenly while on a walk with Jeff four years ago. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and we thought Stella was gorgeous. She was just a lover and we could see the excitement in her big gentle eyes when we opened her kennel to stroke her head, the softest head ever. We still miss you, Stella.

Last week we lost one of our dearest friends, Big Al. Al first came to us 11 years ago, already a gentle giant. Al was always the perfect gentleman, just a wonderful soul. He stayed with us many times over the years. We shall miss him, but his buddy Homer (a tad more rambunctious than Al) will continue to visit and will now receive our undivided affection.

Did I mention that I am also a member of the Auburn Sustainability Committee? We have arranged a tour of the recently upgraded West Placer Waste Management Authority ( WPWMA) recycling facility in Lincoln. The tour is scheduled for Tuesday, 7/22, at 9:00 AM. We have a few slots left, so message me directly if you would like to join us.

Geoff (that is I) is a member of The Rotary Club of Auburn. As such, you will see Rotary-related posts here from time to time. This is one of them. Auburn Kennels is proud to be a sponsor of the Club's annual Brew & Wine Festival coming up this Saturday, May 31, at The Gold Country Fairground. Pouring starts at noon and ends at 5:00. This is always a great event with live music, food trucks, the whole nine yards. Sylvia and I will be pouring, so be sure to look for us and say hi.

Recently one of our clients had a run in with the gate across the driveway, doing some damage to her car. Although this is the first such incident in our 16 years of operation, I thought it would be worthwhile to caution everyone as to how the gate works. There are indeed sensors, both lasers and pressure pads. However, these work only to KEEP THE GATE OPEN when a vehicle is passing through. They will not keep the gate from closing if it has already started to close. Bottom line, you can be confident the gate will not close on you when it is fully open, but you shoud not enter into the path of the gate if it is starting to close. Best to stop, walk around the pillar, enter the code, and then proceed through.
