Do you remember Friggy?! 🥹🩵

Let me tell you why this video means so much.

When Friggy first came to us, this girl was afraid of just about EVERYTHING. Even the sound of her own collar tags was enough to send her into fight or flight. Being touched by strangers? Absolutely not. The world was a scary place, and Friggy wanted very little to do with it. But little by little, we watched that change. We watched her find her confidence. We watched her learn to trust. We watched her start playing, exploring, and realizing that life didn’t have to be so frightening.

And today, more than a year later… her mom sent me THIS. 😭🥹

They were downtown and unexpectedly found themselves surrounded by a whole lot more activity than they’d planned for.

And just LOOK at our girl!!!!!

Then, after confidently walking to the car…. Watch how Friggy looks up at her mom. For a dog who once found nearly everything frightening, seeing her turn toward her person is such a beautiful reminder of how far they’ve come. Her mom has become someone she can look to for guidance and reassurance when the world gets overwhelming.

We didn’t just work on building Friggy’s confidence in the world. We worked on building her confidence in the person holding the leash. And a year later, that relationship is still growing. ❤️ Great job ladies, we are so so proud of you both🩵🩵 Jennifer Ritlaw Ardrey

NEW FACES AT UNLEASHED FREEDOM K9 ACADEMY! 🩵🖤

We’ve got some new faces joining the UFK9 family, and let me tell you… this is quite the crew!

🐾 JAKE — This handsome boy is a happy-go-lucky guy who absolutely adores his dad, a veteran! ❤️ Jake is here to work on impulse control, boundaries, confidence, and learning that he doesn’t have to keep tabs on dad every second of the day. Sometimes loving your person means learning how to relax when they’re not right next to you!

🐾 DAISY — Oh, Daisy. 😍 This sweet, older girl is a rescue with a whole lot of personality, strength and an independent streak to match them both! She’s loving, happy, full of life, and has some pretty strong opinions about how the world SHOULD work. She’s here to work on obedience, impulse control, and managing her prey drive. Her foster mom had cats… 👀🙃 Daisy is also looking for her forever family! So if you or someone you know is looking for an older baby to add to the home, someone is going to be very lucky to have this girl. ❤️

🐾 OONA — This beautiful girl is here for some more serious behavioral work. Relationships between dogs in the same household aren’t always sunshine and rainbows, and sometimes those relationships can deteriorate into dangerous conflict. We’re going to work on Oona’s emotional regulation, obedience, and helping her family establish a safer, more structured environment where she can coexist peacefully.

🐾 LOUIE — Louie is another rescue who has come to us for a behavioral evaluation. His history has raised some very serious safety concerns, and again, our job is to take an objective look at the dog in front of us, understand what we’re dealing with, and determine what the safest, most responsible path forward looks like.

🐶 Mac is almost at the end of his training program. He’s grown in leaps and bounds and Wednesday, he will have his final exam. We have a feeling he’s going to crush that and head home this week.

Not every dog comes to training because they don’t know how to sit. Some come because their families are struggling. Some come because they need help learning how to navigate the world. Some are fighting for a chance at a forever home. And some require us to make really difficult decisions.

Chachi headed home today! 🏡🩵🐾

This boy has worked so hard, and he’s earned every bit of the freedom he’s enjoying! Just look at that happy face! 😍

This is what it’s all about. Building confidence, creating understanding, and giving dogs the skills to safely enjoy the world around them. Freedom isn’t given. It’s earned. And Chachi has certainly earned his! 🩵

You’ve got your whole life ahead of you, buddy. Go explore, have adventures, make memories, and be the best boy ever!

Drogon has always hated going through the car wash. 😂 But I want you watch what he does when he’s nervous — he looks to me. He’s not pretending he isn’t uncomfortable. He hears the noise, watches everything happening around him, and absolutely would rather not be there. But instead of letting that anxiety make his decisions for him, he checks in with me.

This is a fully trained service dog who has worked in busy public environments, traveled with me, and even flown on a plane. …. Even HE gets uncomfortable sometimes.

A well-trained dog isn’t a dog that never feels fear, stress, uncertainty, or overstimulation. Dogs are allowed to have emotions. What we want is a dog who knows what to do with those emotions.

“I’m uncomfortable. What should I do?”

That’s trust. That’s communication. That’s relationship. Training shouldn’t create a dog with no feelings. It should create a dog who can feel those things and still stay connected to their handler. ❤️🐾

Teaching a dog that the command still matters when you walk away, when there are distractions, and when nobody is standing over them reminding them every two seconds is an essential part of training.

Independence. Accountability. Calmness. Reliability.

That’s the goal. A dog who understands what’s expected even when we are not right beside them. 💙🐾

Freedom is earned through reliability.

We’ve got a pretty fun crew around here right now. 🐾

💙 Luna is back for a refresher! She’s a 14-month-old Poodle who has officially entered the teenage “I know what you said, but do I have to?” stage. 😂 We’re tightening everything back up and reminding her that training didn’t disappear just because adolescence showed up.

💙 Lottie spent a few days with us last week for boarding! This sweet, slightly wild-eyed little Aussie/GSD mix is 5½ months old, completed her puppy lessons with me, and will be starting her adult in-home lessons soon. I LOVE getting to watch them grow up.

💙 Mac is here for a much bigger reason — helping him keep the home he found. He’s a 10-month-old GSD/Pit mix who came from rescue and has an adopter who loves him, but nipping at the children in the home has become a serious concern. So we’re working on boundaries, impulse control, communication, and helping this young dog learn how to successfully live with his family.

💙 Abe is just living his best vacation life with me while his parents are away. 😂 Sometimes you come to Unleashed Freedom because you need training… and sometimes you just come because your humans went on vacation.

💙 Kya officially started her program today, so you’ll be seeing plenty more of her as we get to know each other and start putting the pieces together.

And then there’s Chachi. 😍😂 Chachi is the little brother of Fonzie, who completed a board-and-train with me a few months ago. First of all, Fonzie and Chachi?! Their family wins the naming game. I’m obsessed.

A lot has been happening over here even when social media has been quiet — dogs learning, families getting support, old students coming back, and new ones just beginning.

Millie and Maggie have officially graduated! 🎓🩵

These two teenage besties came to us needing help managing their excitement, settling their minds, and making better choices around distractions. During their time here, they learned how to slow down, follow clear direction, work calmly together, and carry those skills into real-world public environments.

Now it’s their parents’ turn! They’re beginning their lessons so they can learn how to communicate with the girls, maintain everything they’ve accomplished, and continue building on this foundation at home.

Training doesn’t end at graduation—the freedom begins when the whole family learns how to use it. 🩵

Before training, Waldon’s mom was ready to surrender him to the rescue. He was uncontrollable, dog reactive, had no recall, and with three young children in the home, she was worried he was simply too much dog for their family. The day he escaped the yard, ran to the neighbors and charged their dog was their final straw. She told me vet day was always the worst day of the year—just getting him out of the house and into a place where there might be other dogs was an ordeal. She wasn’t even sure training would ever be enough.

Waldon is seven years old. He completed his board-and-train program, went home, and Mom worked hard in her lessons to learn how to use his training in real life. Today his mom walked him through Woods-N-Water at the Imlay City Fairgrounds.

Crowds. Other dogs. Noise. Activity…. And there he is—just walking with his mom. After today, he’ll be allowed to go to drop off and pick up with his kids, enjoy family vacations, go on walks and to dog friendly events. His world just got so much bigger. 🥰

The dog she couldn’t take anywhere, now gets to go everywhere. 🤩🐶

Congratulations, Waldon and Mom! You’ve so worked hard, now go enjoy the life you’ve built. We can’t wait to see all your adventures 🩵

Three dogs. One mom. And an update I was thrilled to receive 🤩🐶

Harvey, Hank, and Henry’s mom has put in the work to confidently lead all three of her boys, communicate clearly, and give them the structure they need to enjoy the world together.

Because the goal was never three dogs who simply behave for the trainer. The goal was this: three boys out on an adventure, calmly enjoying life with their mom. This is what freedom looks like. 🩵 And I could not be more proud of them 🩵

Well, get it, Panch! 😂

This girl is miles away from where she was just 10 days ago. Did you see the belly rubs? 👀 🥰

This is what happens when trust and respect meet clear structure and calm leadership. We didn’t force confidence—we gave her consistency, accountability, and the safety to make better choices.

There’s still work ahead, but Panchi is finally starting to feel comfortable in her own skin. And that is a beautiful thing to watch. 🩵
