I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately, and I wanted to share something that’s been weighing heavily on me.

One thing I’ve noticed more and more within the breeding world is how quickly situations can escalate, often based on partial information, misunderstandings, or only one side of a story being shared. It’s easy to form opinions in those moments, especially when emotions are involved, but the reality is there are always multiple perspectives, and the truth usually lives somewhere in the middle.

I think sometimes we forget how impactful our words and reactions can be, especially in such a public space. Many breeders pour their hearts and souls into their programs, their dogs, and their daily care. So when criticism turns into piling on and tearing down, it can be incredibly discouraging, even if that wasn’t the original intention. Reasonable people may not always agree on every detail, but how we treat each other in those disagreements still matters.

Another pattern I’ve seen, and experienced personally, is how quickly breeders are labeled as “unethical” or “unreputable” for not meeting someone else’s expectations of what a program should look like. Some breeders may not check every box according to a specific standard, but they are still providing excellent care, proper veterinary support, appropriate health testing, and actively working to improve. Yet, falling short in one area can be enough to make them a target. There’s a difference between education and accountability, and repeatedly targeting someone who is trying to do better. That approach doesn’t strengthen the community, it creates division and discourages progress. This does not apply to situations involving dishonesty, illegal activity, neglect, abuse, or failures in animal welfare. Those require accountability and should be reported. Protecting the dogs and the integrity of the breed must always come first, but outside of that, how we address one another matters.

When I first came into this community, I honestly thought the answer was that I just needed to toughen up and grow a thicker skin. After a while, I realized that mindset was starting to change me as a person and how I deal with things, and not in a way I was proud of. That’s when it really hit me that “just toughen up” isn’t actually a solution. I’m very aware of that now and I’m actively working to change it, because that’s not who I am at my core. I’m also not willing to stoop to certain levels or conform to anyone’s expectations of me just to fit in within this community. I named my program 𝕊𝕒𝕝𝕥 𝕠𝕗 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝔼𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕙 for a reason, and I fully intend to operate in a way that reflects the meaning of that phrase. I’m not willing to accept an unhealthy or toxic community shaping me into someone I don’t recognize. Instead, I want to flip that and do my part in trying to change the community itself.

I’m not saying any of this from a place of perfection, and I’m definitely not pretending I’ve always handled everything the right way. I know I’ve had moments where I could have done better. But I’m committed to growing, because I truly believe that who we are as people matters just as much as the programs we’re building. At the end of the day, most of us are here for the same reason. We care deeply about our breed and want to see it thrive.

Maybe instead of reacting quickly, we can pause and consider:
❥ Are we seeing the full picture?
❥ Is this something we fully understand?
❥ Do we hold a bias?
❥ Can we approach this in a way that’s constructive rather than divisive?

And maybe just as importantly, we need to be mindful of whose voices we’re choosing to follow. The loudest voice in the room isn’t always the most informed or the most fair. Sometimes, the voice of reason is quieter, but it’s the one worth listening to.

There is so much value in collaboration, mentorship, and respectful conversation, especially for newer breeders who are still learning and looking for guidance. The environment we create directly impacts the direction of the next generation in this space. I also think it’s important to remember that no two programs are the same. We all bring something different to the table, and that diversity is actually a strength, not a threat. There is room for all of us to grow, succeed, and contribute in our own ways.

Personally, I want to continue focusing on education, growth, and supporting those who are genuinely trying to do right by their dogs and the breed as a whole. This space can be very toxic and can push people into really fragile mental states, and that’s exactly why I’m committed to doing my part to help shift it in a healthier direction.

I truly believe that if we work together, it is absolutely possible to change the atmosphere of this breeding community. It won’t happen overnight, and it won’t happen from the efforts of just a few people. It’s going to take a majority of us intentionally choosing to do better, choosing to be kinder, and choosing to be more thoughtful in how we speak and act. We really are better together, and the only way this changes is if more of us choose to be part of that change on purpose. If we all leaned a little more into understanding, patience, and encouragement, I think we could create a much stronger, more positive community, one that truly reflects the passion we all share.

Officially introducing Nasledia Vera, AKA Letty — the first fully Russian‑bred female to join Ironwood Creek and the beginning of a legacy we have intentionally planned for!

I sought out true Russian lines because I’ve always loved the unmistakable look they produce: the elegant outlines, the coats, the refined heads, and the consistency that comes from generations of thoughtful, purposeful breeding! I wanted to bring in lines that would genuinely better the breed, and Letty’s pedigree represents some of the strongest FCI Russian and Eastern European kennels!

I chose her the moment I saw her rich red color and the balance she carried even as a puppy. She wasn’t just another option she was the one who matched the vision I had for the future of Ironwood Creek!

Her name reflects that purpose. Nasledia, meaning heritage or legacy, honors her role as the first Russian female in our program and the one who will carry these lines forward for generations. Her registered name includes Vera, meaning faith, symbolizing the faith we have in building strong, well‑bred Dachshunds with intention, integrity, and excellence!

Letty is gentle, observant, and deeply bonded, the kind of dog who connects quickly and becomes part of the rhythm of daily life. She brings both beauty and purpose to Ironwood Creek, and we are honored to steward the legacy she represents!

Letty’s pedigree is built on some of the most respected FCI kennels in Russia and Eastern Europe. Her foundation includes:

• Littl Fut Lord — a Russian male known for structure, coat, and consistency, used intentionally in multiple high‑quality programs.
• Kinchville — one of Russia’s most recognizable longhair Dachshund kennels, known for elegant outlines, beautiful heads, and exceptional coats.
• Daks‑Veg‑As — a long‑established Russian kennel producing dogs with strong toplines, deep chests, and excellent movement.
• Aavistuksen — a Finnish/Russian‑connected line known for balance, correct proportions, and stable temperaments.
• Yang Guang Kennel — contributing refinement, pigment, and coat quality.
• Fabeltier — a Russian kennel producing dogs with substance, ribbing, and excellent keel development.
• Tezaurus Dream and Sushiding — lines known for structure and bone

These kennels have produced champions across Russia, Belarus, Finland, and other FCI countries, and their influence is clear in Letty’s pedigree. Her lineage is a blend of dogs selected for type, temperament, and long-term consistency! The exact qualities we want to preserve and continue at Ironwood Creek!

We are deeply grateful to GatorHead Dachshunds for entrusting us with the opportunity to carry these incredible lines forward! Their dedication to preserving true Russian type has laid the foundation for what Letty will contribute to our program, and we are proud to continue the heritage they have worked so hard to protect!

Marlo has found his forever 🥰

One of the hardest parts of this job! You win some and you lose some! Marlo is one of the sweetest, most loving boys I’ve ever raised, and this decision is truly bittersweet. He is 7 months old, up to date on all vaccinations, kennel trained, and has the gentlest, happiest temperament. He has been raised with care, structure, kids, other dogs, inside living and so much affection.

At his recent vet check, we confirmed that Marlo has only one descended testicle. While this doesn’t affect his ability to live a long, healthy, happy life as a companion, it does mean he cannot be part of my program. Ethical breeding requires that I only keep dogs who meet the full health and structural standards needed to improve the breed, and cryptorchidism is a trait that should not be passed on.

Because of that, Marlo deserves a wonderful PET 🏡ONLY and will have a neuter contract! He is truly the best boy - sweet, eager to please, and incredibly loving. This is not a decision made lightly, but it is the right one for him and for the integrity of my program.

He will make an exceptional companion for a family who wants a loyal, affectionate, well‑mannered dog. I will be extremely picky and choose very wisely, and I will be patient in finding the perfect 🏡!
Must have a vet reference!
