🐾 The 3-3-3 Rule of Adopting a Dog 🐾
Bringing home a rescue dog is exciting, but it’s important to remember that it takes time for them to feel truly at home. The 3-3-3 Rule helps new adopters understand what their pup might be experiencing during those first crucial months:
📅 3 Days
The initial days are crucial for the new pet to decompress from the stress of the move and adjust to the new environment. This phase involves providing a safe, quiet space, avoiding overstimulation, and allowing the pet to settle in.
📅 3 Weeks
During this period, the pet begins to explore their surroundings, learn routines, and start to trust their new family. This is also a time when behavioral issues might emerge, so consistent routines and positive reinforcement are important.
📅 3 Months
By three months, most pets have settled into their new home, formed bonds with their family, and developed a sense of security. This phase focuses on continued training, socializing, and building a stronger bond with the pet.
💛 Remember: every dog is different, and some may need more (or less) time. Patience, love, and consistency are what help turn a rescue into family.
