I think it's time to state the obvious. We have named him Wilford Brimley, Brimley for short.

How does one keep Trek occupied? Mop.

Our beautiful Saunter is the most laid back puppy of her litter. She enjoys zoomies, but prefers just hanging out. She is going to make her new family happy and become a devoted addition. We adore Saunter and you will too.

It's going on 3:00 am. Trek got up for a potty break and, for a change, went directly back to sleep. Notice the crossed legs and smile.

I thought this was pre-precipitation antics, but I was wrong. Saunter wanted to dance in the rain. I had other plans. She is inside.

Saunter and Marvella know the game plan. Trek has no clue.

Mom: Marvella, what are you thinking about?
Marvella: What the future holds for me.
Mom: Like educational opportunities?
Marvella: I can sit, stay and p**p outside. Nothing else to learn.
Mom: Personal enlightenment?
Marvella: I light up any room with my engaging smile and pleasant demeanor, so no.
Mom: What about volunteering, helping people?
Marvella: Took a test to see what plant represents my personal human interaction style.
Mom: Cactus?
Marvella: No, poison ivey. I get on everyone's nerves.
Mom: Creative arts, dancing, painting sculpture?
Marvella: I walked through concrete once. Looked pretty good, but didn't spark a passion.
Mom: Ok, let's start short term. What do you want to be tomorrow?
Marvella: I am ok with just being Marvella Estelle. I think that is the best plan.
Mom: I do too.

Our boy has decided to grow!

Today was fun, but Saunter did not get adopted. Her forever family is still out there. Our time making friends progressed as follows:
Saunter was her adorable, sweet self, welcoming visitors with happy, beautiful, brown eyes and a wagging tail.
Trek entertained himself by poking his front legs through the pen and screaming like he had succumbed to the gravitational pull of an evil vortex.
Saunter played with her toy butterfly and willingly shared it with cheerful children.
Trek somehow obtained a stack of napkins and made snow. When anyone tried to join in the fun he made yellow snow.
Saunter demonstrated her table manners by taking delicate sips from the water bowl, careful not to spill a drop.
Trek p**ped in the water bowl.
We are home. I am mentally drained. Thank you, Saunter for being wonderful. Trek? Well, I now know how my grandmother felt when she took my toddler self out in public.

Walking Home Together is all set up at The Whistle Post. Come say hello.
05/31/2025
This is what happened while I packed the van for adoption day. I kid you not this took place in less than three minutes. What I didn't get a picture of was Marvella brining Trek a box to chew up next. Saunter and I will be at the Whistle Post today at noon. This tiny maniac will be there as well, but not currently available for adoption.

Hi, Saunter here. I kept an ear out today to find out where adoption day will be tomorrow. Now it's your turn to listen up. At high noon the wagon will roll into The Whistle Post in Old Town Conyers. Come join us us for a rip roarin' time and fill your belly while we catch up. I sure would like one of you to fall in love with me and adopt me. This girl dreams of some kinfolk of her own. See ya!

Hi everyone! Welcome to our Rescue Page. There are many questions that we get asked a lot, so I am adding this page to answer our most popular and most frequently asked questions. Thank you, Geri Addison, Assistant Director, Walking Home Together
What is our adoption fee and what does it cover? Our adoption fee is $200. It covers the pet’s spay/neuter surgery, micro-chip, vaccinations up to date for age including rabies, de-worming, flea prevention, and heart worm prevention if they are old enough. It also covers any medical treatment that the dog may have incurred prior to being put up for adoption. Some of our animals come to us with devastating injuries that may have cost us thousands of dollars to have treatment. Even if this is the case, the adoption fee NEVER goes up.
Do we have to fill out an application before visiting the dogs? YES. We do this so we can make sure that you are a good adopter. We check vet references, number of pets owned, etc... Our application is only one page, is very simple to fill out, and gives us invaluable information about you, your family, your pets, etc... The ONLY exception to this is if we are having an open “Meet and Greet” or are having an adoption event. Even then, you will be asked to fill out an application on site.
My child called to ask about dogs, and you would not talk to them. Yes, this is more of a statement than a question, but NO, we will not discuss an animal with a minor. Even if you are looking for a dog for your child, you need to realize that YOU are the one that is ultimately responsible for the animal. We do not adopt to minors, and if you are considering adopting from us, please have the courtesy to call us yourself.
Can we return our dog if things are not working out? The answer to this is yes, but you have 3 days to do it. It is unreal the calls we get from people who have had a dog a year or more that want to return a dog because of behavior issues. When you adopt from us, you are given a puppy packet that goes over training issues and other puppy care items. If you have had a dog from a puppy for over a year and they have behavioral issues, guess who’s fault it is? We will offer you solutions, suggest training, etc..., but we will not just say, “Ok, you failed to do what you said you were going to do, so we will take your problematic dog back after you have owned him for 3 years.” Not going to happen. We have other animals in our care that we have a responsibility to, and taking in your food aggressive, fence jumping or digging, ill behaved dog would not be fair to them.
If we see a dog that we want will you hold it for us? This is not a cut and dried situation. If you want a dog, and you arrange to come see it on Friday, but another person comes to see the dog on Tuesday and decides that they want the dog it is adopted to them. If we had a dollar for every person that said they were going to come and get a dog on Friday, but then never showed up to get said dog, we would not need to have fund raisers. Being in rescue it is our job to find our pups homes in a timely manner. The only exception to this is if you want to put down a deposit on a certain dog, because you know you want them, but you physically cannot pick them up until later. In these cases, if you are sure you want the dog, you can put down a $100 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit. Yes, I said Non-refundable. If you do not pick the dog up on the agreed day, and someone else comes and sees the dog and cannot live without it, they will get the opportunity to adopt the dog, and you will forfeit your deposit and claim on the dog. Bottom line is, if you tell us you will be there Saturday morning at 10am to pick up your pet, then be there at 10am to pick up your pet. Our first and primary responsibility is finding the animal a safe home, and that is what we stick to.
Can you let us know if you get a “insert dog breed here” in? The answer to that question is no. We simply do not have the time or resources to keep up with who is wanting a certain breed of dog when we get one. You have to watch our page and see if we have whatever you are looking for.
What is Fido mixed with and how big will they get? The majority of the animals we get in come from animal control. Most of the time we do not know the environment from which they came, and there is no way for us to know what the parents were. We can make an educated guess as to what the dog is, but that is all it is. As far as size goes, Please don’t adopt a chihuahua from us, over feed it to the point of obesity, then accuse us of being dishonest in how big it will get or how much it will weigh when full grown. Also, we list EVERYTHING we know about the dog when we post it. Please don’t email us and ask about the background, parents, etc...If we don’t put it in the listing then it is an unknown. Plain and simple.
Also, please be advised that there is literally only 2 people who do the bulk of the work in this rescue. We WILL get to you email, question, etc...Please don’t email, private message, and blow the phone up. This only serves to slow the entire process down, and we have actual lives in the meantime. Please do not call, message, or email us at 9pm at night and expect us to answer right away. This IS our job. We do not get paid, and we deserve to have some down time just like you do from your regular job. The ONLY exception to this is if you have a true animal emergency and need help ASAP. For example, if you have a nursing mother and puppies, and the mother gets out and gets killed by a vehicle, if you are not versed in bottle feeding THAT constitutes a rescue emergency. Your personal dog barking at 2am because you leave it in the yard 24/7, and you cannot stand the barking any longer is NOT an emergency.
The bottom line is we are here for the animals in our care, and we are going to do what is best for them regardless.
