Some may remember last summer i took in a young pig that was being given away at Tractor Supply in Calhoun Ga. I tried to find her a forever home but how many folks are actually looking for a pet pig? So of course Bacon stayed with me and her two other piggy companions Deloris and Piglet!
Bacon was a true ham( pardon the expression ) she was always asking for attentiontion and belly rubs, she took food from the dogs, she would sleep with the dogs, she would get out of any type of fencing i would put her in!
She was one of a kind! But I loved her aggravating ways!
Sunday afternoon Bacon wasn’t acting right, as the time passed she couldn’t walk, couldn’t see and then started having seizures.
Unsure if she was kicked by the horse, if a big limb fell from a tree and hit her. Regardless she had a head injury and there was not a single mark on her.
The most humane thing to do was to assist her over rainbow bridge.

RIP Bacon! Keep all those critters in line up in heaven until we meet again!

We raised this little girl, she was just a baby when she was found.
Next month she will be 1 year old.
She lives outside and does what normal squirrels do, with the exception of coming back to the house to let me know she is still here and ask for an occasional treat.
I noticed she was gaining weight and suspected she had gotten pregnant. (She isn’t super friendly and won’t be handled)
Well, she quit coming up for about 5 days in a row, though I would call for her.
Then she showed back up, skinnier then before. I gave extra food and noticed she wasn’t staying but for only a few minutes.
Skip to a week or two later.
She came up acting strange, she would run up to me make a noise and run off, turn around and come back to me, so common sense told me to follow her.
As I preceded to follow she would come back to me run up my leg , nibble on me and take off again.
Until…. We got to “her” tree. She ran up my leg, bit me and scurried up the tree. As she entered her nest, I could hear her babies whistling to her.
It’s not the tik tok video of the lady being led by her finger by her squirrel to visit the babies, but it’s the next best thing!

I can’t wait for her babies to start venturing out of the nest!

FYI: It takes about 42 days for squirrels to have babies!

Cutest thing I have seen in a few days! The chicken ran away and the obnoxious blue jay stood its ground!

She is gone!! 😢

Earlier on Friday ( 11:00 am) Puff had a bad episode of not being able to get up or breathe very well, I took her to the vets office.
On the way to the vet, she seemed to be breathing some better ( tongue wasn’t blue) and once the vet seen her she was back to almost normal color and wasn’t stressing to breathe as bad.
Sadly, Puff was diagnosed with a grade 6 heart murmur and put on 3 medications for her little heart.
Back home I made her as comfortable as I could, gave her medications and returned to the kennels to care for the other dogs.

This evening when I got into the house for the night, I observed Puff, she wasn’t feeling great but she was moving around, and ate a few bites of dry dog food.

Before going to bed, I repeated her medications with a small amount of canned food.
As a normal routine, I carried Puff to bed and we had some nightly one on one Puff time.
( she seemed to understand that during the day I have to care for other animals and bed time was our time, all my attention is on Puff for a short time and she enjoyed it).
I turned off the light, got into bed and as normal both Puff and I get in our favorite positions and fall to sleep.
Except within minutes, I felt Puff trying to get up and she fell back over onto me and je**ed her head twice, By the time I could get the light back on she was already gone.

Sometimes you have to make the decision to be a week early rather then a day to late.

Today was the day that Dexter let us know it was time to let him go.
As suspected, he had Cancer!

This past month I have prayed and begged for him to get better.
And for several days he felt better, he gained some weight and he started eating again. (high dosages of prednisone)
But he actually felt like s**t! He was not able to go walk and guard the property, he wasn’t able to greet any new animals or people who stopped by, like he has done ona daily basis for almost 10 years.
He would try every day to leave the kennels as he had done for years, but would only make it maybe 25 yards or so, do his business and would turn around and come back to the gate and ask to return to his kennel.( due to no energy.).
There he would wait on his special food that consisted of canned chicken breast , canned and dry dog food, he would eat as much as he could then he would go back into his dog house and sleep until he wanted to try it again.
Dexter was a very special boy that never harmed a thing. He had a very rough start in life, being sent to a shelter, some what rescued, but then left in a hoarding type situation where he and over 100 other dogs were saved, adopted to wonderful families and given the best life’s possible! (Thanks to Pam Schairbaum and some awesome women in Washington state).
Dexter was that one dog that had some trust issues and wasn’t really a very adoptable dog.
However, Dexter was the perfect rescue Greeter. He managed to be the first one to meet every new dog that came into the rescue.
He seemed to give them the low down on the kennels as they arrived.
Dexter will be deeply missed, but there will be no more suffering!

Gotta love Pam’s major overbite!!!🤣

Dexter Morgan has been with me for almost 9 years. He was one of the first rescue dogs that came from basically a hoarding case at Kennels in the country years back.( he originally came from Murray county animal control). Rain City Rescue in washington state and I helped over 100 dogs find homes.

A few days ago I finally noticed Dexter wasn’t feeling the greatest.
Took him to the vet yesterday for bloodwork and X-rays. They kept him over night to give fluids due to dehydration, X-ray shows a possible enlarged spleen. And bloodwork show’s anemia.
He is loosing blood some where, or his body is not making rbc .

So now we are at another vet having a ultrasound preformed to see if the problem can be found.
Please send a lot of healing and positive vibes for Dexter!

Sorry for the delayed update.
Toby “biggun” is doing great! He had his neck surgery this past Friday.
He is looking and feeling MARVELOUS!

He finally got the idea that food comes easy here and he doesn’t have to scarf down his meals so fast. Yesterday was the first day he ate like he had some manners!

I have included a couple of updated pics and his last invoice.
His bills have been paid Thanks to all the awesome people that stepped up and contributed to his care. (Thank you very much, I couldn’t have done this without your help!)
He is Heartworm negative and now current on his vaccines.
One last thing needed, that’s to be neutered, hoping he can get done a week from tomorrow.(Friday)

Little one is hanging in there!
Day 5 I believe.
Unsure how old it is. However she is making improvements.
She eats great from a plastic spoon and now is learning how to perch on a stick.

Our Passion - Our Story

We are 501 C-3 non profit animal rescue organization, based in Ranger, GA.

Our Members are : Tracy Hunter

We take in dogs and puppies who are often abandoned, neglected, abused or dumped at high kill animal control shelters in North West Georgia.

We bring these unwanted, thrown away animals into our personnel homes and show them gentleness, guidance, love, attention and compassion. We provide the basic needs such as food, water, shelter, any and all medical needs, including unforeseen issues. The most rewarding part of rescuing animals is watching them learning to trust and understand that their life is getting better every day. They BLOOM! they forget about their past and they move forward and are much happier confident companions! We carefully screen potential adopters and match our dogs with the best fit for the adopters and the dogs!
