⚠Greyhound Death ⚠️
Today is a day of remembrance for the GGA family as we remember Angel Tommy (JA's Tomorrow), who gained his wings in 2021. Tommy is a constant reminder of why greyhounds should NEVER be on retractable leashes.
Tommy was idiopathically shy like his litter mates, Mini (JA's Minute) and Myrtle (JA's Hour). During foster care, Tommy gained confidence and enjoyed walking with the comfort of a contact leash, which allowed him to explore this new world. His adoptive family understood this - one of the reasons he was proposed to them.
Despite conversations and reminders following social media posts, his adoptive family walked Tommy on a retractable leash.
While out on a walk and a sweater readjustment, the bulky plastic handle dropped to the ground and spooked Tommy. Tommy ran - and ran and ran and ran. He ran so hard from the bouncing and clacking plastic handle that just kept chasing him. At some point, the line and handle wrapped around a post, and Tommy pulled with such strength that fear gave him that he broke the line. But he kept running. And running. Tommy was then run over by his adoptive family's vehicle. Tommy died moments later.
