About a day's worth of shavings. It doesn't look like it but there is six garbage cans of it in this image. A pickup load of boxelder is not in the rearview mirror. At least the roughing is. I used to be able to do more, but getting slower. And the want-to is flagging a little too.

Here are some tops made by members of the Georgia Association of Woodturners and being auctioned by the Beads of Courage non-profit. Take a look!

NEW TODAY! During the Summer of ART, we have some exciting online auctions featuring items generously donated by the artists and skilled crafters who support our arts-in-medicine mission.

First up is this auction of handcrafted wood spin tops created my members of the Turning Southern Style Symposium. There are 60 beautiful tops to bid on with bidding starting at just $10 per top! Auction ends July 1.

Many woodturners make tops to warm up before starting a project or to demonstrate the craft of woodturning at events. In fact, some events have head-to-head top-making contests. It is said that a well-made wooden top can spin on the top and the bottom!

The spin top is one of the oldest toys archaeologists have discovered. A wooden spin top was discovered in the tomb of King Tut. A top is mentioned in Homer’s Iliad. Tops can be found in fine art from the 1500-1700s and several cultures have developed games revolving around the spin top.

Spin tops can be enjoyed by old and young - from the tiniest of children needing something quiet to play with to the business executive needing to keep his or her hands busy. Some call them the original fidget spinner! 😁

"Please enjoy the gifts of our labors as you support Beads of Courage." - Turning Southern Style Woodturning Symposium

Good luck and happy bidding!
