I bring over 20 years of horse ownership and handling, with global riding experience from Australia to America and points in between. I began clipping my own horse over fifteen years ago, then clipping in-barn clients until I expanded my business to outside clients in 2012. I currently own two horses, Well Played aka Wells a young Oldenburg that I plan to compete Hunters with and Aways The Optimis
t aka Timi an OTTB who I am exploring the sport of Workong Equitation with. My very first job was working with animals - at Petsmart - where I worked for over 7 years through high school and college. I also had the privilege to intern with Breyer Model Horses and still get to work with them annually at their BreyerFest event and other special events. I use only Wahl brand clippers with a freshly sharpened & disinfected 10 blade for each horse (T-84 available upon request). These clippers are remarkably quiet and the blade allows me to get into very small crevices! I rotate between sixteen blades and also regularly replace the blade drive to keep each horse's cut fresh and even. I regularly utilize natural mineral spirits to keep the blades clean and cool throughout the job. Each clip typically takes me 2.5 hours, though sometimes more and sometimes less. While the majority of my clients are sporthorses competing in Hunters, Jumpers, Eventing or Dressage, a number are also retirees or pleasure horses. Horses who experience medical conditions such as Cushings and anhydrosis often benefit from regular clipping - even in the summer! And sale horses always look best with a fresh haircut to show off their features. Many of my clients request clips for big shows including USEF Pony Finals, Sport Horse Nationals, and NAL Jumper League Finals, and in the Western world, Congress. I have experience clipping a wide variety of breeds including miniature horses, Arabians, Gypsy Vanners, Mustangs, Dartmoors, and more! I am happy to work within your breed or discipline standards - just please let me know before I arrive so I can make sure I bring the proper equipment to achieve the look you desire. Due to the chemicals used in maintaining clipper blades, I do recommend that as soon as possible after your horse's clip job, you should give them a short bath to clear their skin of any irritants. Some owners worry about how their horse will behave. For those who know their horses have been clipped before with no concerns, those owners do not need to be present when I clip. If you are fairly certain your horse will behave but need to leave, please let me know so that I can test clip ears & legs before you go. When needed, I do have a single-man twitch available and am able to use that with the owner's consent. Please let me know if this is a problem for you - I understand that some owners prefer not to have their horse twitched. Any horses needing sedation will need to have the owner, farm manager or trainer administer the medication. This is for the health & well being of your horse. My goal is to treat your horse with quiet confidence, patience and respect and ensure that they have an enjoyable experience while being clipped. Thank you for choosing CLIPclop to help you shine in the show ring!
