Starting Monday, March 3rd I will no longer be offering Boarding or Board & Train services while I take some time off. I will still be offering limited availability private lessons and consultations.

Austin was the last boarder to go home before I start my sabbatical tomorrow. Like many of my clients, I’ve been a part of Austin’s life since he was a small puppy. As excited as I am for this next chapter I am going to greatly miss all my amazing clients! After 7 years, I feel like so many of you are more like extended family than clients.

I will be back after some much needed rest, rejuvenation and time to travel. So this is not a “goodbye”, but simply a “see you later”!

We would like to officially introduce our newest Trainer Micaela! And her dog Koda, of course. 😁

Micaela has had a love for dogs since she was younger and always wanted to work with them in her career. She grew up local in Woodstock, GA and got her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology at Kennesaw State.

Micaela got Koda, a black and tan Labrador retriever, in hopes to learn about the developmental processes of dogs and the training that mirrors that.

We first hired Micaela in 2023 as an assistant trainer, and over the past several months she has gone through our hands on course to become a certified Dog Trainer. As of May 1, 2024 we have promoted her to Trainer status!

Her dog Koda has been an amazing asset to the team since they joined us a year and a half ago. His happy-go-luck personality is great for helping dogs come out of their shell.

Please help us give Micaela and Koda CONGRATULATIONS!!

Fully on and off leash trained LOVES affection and cuddling. Great with other dogs (but sometimes doesn’t understand the size difference). Best with older kids (because he doesn’t know his size).

Meet our Trainer & Kennel Manager Skylar!

Skylar has grown up with dogs his entire life. He was born and raised in a small town in Illinois and moved to Georgia with his family in 2019. In 2021 he graduated from North Forsyth.

Skylar’s first exposure to the world of dog training was in 2019 when his family was referred to Rachel by their vet after their dog was attacked on leash by another dog in the neighborhood. During the training program Rachel noticed his natural handling skills and offered him a position as an Assistant Trainer.

In 2022, after a 6 month long certification process, Skylar was brought on as a full time Obedience Trainer. Skylar loves his job and all the dogs and people he has the opportunity to work with.

❕Meet our owner Rachel❕ .vertexk9

Rachel started training in 2015 when she unknowingly rescued a dog that had severe aggression issues. Working through the issues as a client, she quickly developed a passion for the world of dog behavior and went through a 6 month long, hands on certification course to become a dog trainer.

Before becoming a dog trainer Rachel was a Lieutenant in the Coast Guard, where she served for 9 years. It was during her last year in service that she became a Dog Trainer part time. After 6 years working under her training mentor, in 2021 Rachel decided to start her own business, Vertex K9 Training.

Her specialty is working with severe behavior cases, and her passion remains rehabilitating the dogs others consider a “lost cause.” Rachel also does basic on and off leash training.

Rachel’s pack includes a Bernese Mountain dog mix, Knightly; a Rottweiler, Riley; and a new German Shepherd puppy, Bingley. She also has two horses, Casey and Samuel, and three goats, Rip, Huck, and Sal.

Welcome newest Vertex pack member, Bingley!

Bingley is an 8wk old German Shepherd that will be one of our helper dogs when he grows up. These dogs are such a vital part of all of our training programs.

Bingley is off to a great start with his training and we can’t wait to see this little man become all he can be!

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of helper dog Darcy. 💔💙

Not many dogs have what it takes to help train and rehabilitate other dogs. But Darcy had it in spades…

In his brief 8 years he helped thousands of dogs become the best version of themselves — helping work through reactivity, dog aggression, fear aggression, calming dogs with anxiety and hyperactivity, and the list goes on…

We often joke that our dogs do half the work for us…but it’s the truth. And Darcy always went above and beyond the call.

He will forever be missed, but his legacy lives on in every life he helped change. 💙💙
