🐻 Bear Safety Tips for Pet Parents! 🐻

Hey Zippy Pets fam! It’s almost officially Spring and living in the Asheville area means we get to share our beautiful outdoors with all kinds of wildlife (including bears) 🤩 While they usually want nothing to do with us, it’s important to keep ourselves and our pets safe during bear season ❤️

Here are some key tips to keep in mind:

1️⃣ Keep Pets on Leash: Off-leash dogs are more likely to chase or startle a bear, which can lead to dangerous encounters. Always leash up on the trails y’all 🤠

2️⃣ Make Noise While Walking: Talking, singing, having music on your phone or using a bear bell can help alert bears to your presence so they can move away before you even see them 🔔

3️⃣ Secure Your Trash & Pet Food: Bears have an incredible sense of smell. Keep trash in bear-proof containers and never leave pet food outside 😬

4️⃣ Stay Calm: We know at times it may seem counter intuitive but do not run! Slowly back away, keep your pet close, stay calm and avoid direct eye contact. Give the bear plenty of space to leave 🐾

It’s also very important to stay alert during walks, especially at dawn and dusk when bears are most active. Look for signs like tracks or overturned trash cans! 👀

❄️🐾 Winter Care Tips 🐾❄️

Hey Zippy Pets fam! With the snowy weather rolling in, we wanted to share a few simple ways to keep your pets safe and happy during the winter season. These are tips that we personally use and they make all the difference! 🤗

1️⃣ Wipe Their Paws: After a walk or playtime, take a moment to clean your pet’s paws. Ice, snow, and salt can cause irritation, and nobody wants sore paw pads! 😖

2️⃣ Cozy Layers: If your dog has short fur or tends to shiver outside, a good coat can help keep them warm. Not every pup is built for the cold and that’s okay! 🧥

3️⃣ Keep It Quick: On freezing days, limit outdoor time to avoid frostbite or hypothermia especially for smaller dogs or those who aren’t used to the cold. Watch for signs like shivering or lifting their paws🐾

4️⃣ Hydration: Even in cold weather, your pets need plenty of water! Make sure they have fresh water available and try to stop them from eating too much snow (as cute as it is!) ⛄️

5️⃣ Weather Check: If it’s icy, snowing, or bitterly cold, adjust outdoor time to keep your pet safe. Sometimes a quick potty break and extra indoor snuggles are the way to go 🥰

Amy is originally from Northern Virginia, where her love for animals began with caring for family pets. She holds a B.S. in Health Information Management from York College in Pennsylvania and spent years working in hospitals in the VA/MD/DC area, ultimately serving as Director of HIM.

Amy’s adventurous spirit has taken her on unique journeys, from a solo cross-country drive to living in Arizona’s desert and experiencing Alaska’s winter magic, including dog mushing and witnessing the Northern Lights. Her travels eventually led her to Asheville in 2018, a place she had always loved visiting 🌄

Over the years, Amy has cared for a variety of pets—dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and more—for family and friends. While her career often kept her from having her own pets, she finds joy in looking after others’ furry (and scaly) companions. Amy is thrilled to bring her passion for pet care to the Zippy Pets team! ✨💖✨

🎄🐾 2 Days to Christmas: Let’s Talk Pet Safety Zippy Style! 🐾🎄

Christmas is all fun and games until Biscuit drinks the Christmas tree water or Fluffy eats an ornament... 😅

❤️ Here are some quick tips to keep your pets safe (and your holiday stress-free) ❤️

🎄 Tree Water Is NOT a Cocktail: It’s like the forbidden juice for pets… keep it covered because no one wants a tummy ache during Christmas dinner 🥴 We recommend securing your skirt around the top of the water base with some heavy duty binder/paper clips to prevent them from sneaking their noses in! 👃

🍫 Chocolate Is for Humans Only: That box of fancy truffles? Keep it out of reach! Pets + chocolate = an expensive trip to the vet 🫠

✨ Tinsel Is NOT a Toy: It looks fun but swallowing it could land your pet on Santa’s naughty (or ER) list and Rudolph is already working overtime so don’t count on him to be able to make an emergency trip 🤭

🌱 Festive Plants Are a No-Go: Holly, mistletoe, and poinsettias might look cute, but they’re trouble in chewable form 🫣

🧘 Give Them a Chill Zone: Between Aunt Susan’s hugs and all the jingling, pets need a retreat. Set up a cozy, quiet spot just for them 😂❤️🥰

We hope this message finds you well as we embrace the cooler weather and approach the spookiest part of the season! 👻 It has been incredibly uplifting to see how much our community has come together in the wake of Hurricane Helene. The strength, generosity, and resilience of our neighbors have been truly inspiring as we work toward rebuilding. Here at ZP, we’ve been busy organizing ways to help our community recover, and we have some exciting updates to share with you this month!

📣 Since some of our team members have been displaced, we have decided to expand our services to southern Delaware near Fenwick Island and Ocean City, Maryland 🏖️

🐾 Other News: Free Community Pop-Up Vet Clinic 💉
If your pets have been impacted, this is a wonderful opportunity to get them the care they need.
Here are the details:
•What: Free physical exams, vaccines, preventative care, and minor illness treatments for pets impacted by the hurricane.
•When: Sunday, October 20th, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
•Where: PetSmart Arden, 3 McKenna Rd, Arden, NC 28704

Greetings to all,

First and foremost, everyone on our team is safe and accounted for thank the heavens! Zippy Pets Professional Pet Care has been proudly serving the Asheville community with reliable, compassionate pet care for 2 years now. However, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we have all been severely impacted.

Some of our team members have lost their homes or been displaced due to the destruction caused by the storm. Unfortunately, with widespread damage across the region, it will be a long time before our sitters can return to their homes and their work. Some of which have been left without a source of income, and the future remains uncertain.

We are raising funds to help cover immediate needs like food, supplies, and any medical expenses that may arise as well as giving our people some cushion while they figure out their next steps. Every donation will go directly to our team, helping them get back on our feet and ensuring that Zippy Pets can continue providing the care our community relies on once we recover.

Did you know that Calico cats aren’t actually a specific breed, but rather known for their unique tri-color coats?!🌟

Also, most calicos are female due to their genetics, and only about 1 in 3,000 calicos is male—talk about rare! 🤯

This makes our client, Theo, extra special since he’s one of the few male calicos out there. 🧡🤍🖤
