Our Silver Appleyard ducks have begun to lay!

The Silver Appleyard ducks at Tollgate have begun their seasonal laying cycle. These eggs are larger than chicken eggs. In a recipe, generally 1 duck egg equals 2 chicken eggs. Duck eggs have a thicker and harder shell than chicken eggs. Generally, duck eggs are thought to be better for baking, giving more loft to cakes.

Taste is similar to chicken eggs, with duck eggs having a slightly stronger flavor. We do have duck eggs available in the walk-in fridge for $60 per dozen. Try some today!

Our young Silver Appleyard ducks and Rouen ducks are doing very well! It’s cold outside at night but in the morning at sunrise there is enough sun to warm them up. Until then they warm up each other.
