Climate change puts the Pacific Walrus population on thin ice

Throughout the Arctic, melting sea ice is causing Pacific walruses to "haul out" on land in massive groups. To minimize deadly disturbances and minimize human-polar bear conflict, WWF is establishing artificial feeding spots on polar bear routes along the coast of Russia's Chukchi Sea.

Clocktower Animal Hospital

Interesting read from our friends at Clocktower. I’m anxious to hear the outcome.

Dear Clocktower clients,
Our veterinarians often get asked which pet food is best for a client’s pet(s). This question is difficult to answer, but over the past few years the veterinary community, especially the veterinary cardiologists, have been increasingly concerned about some of the novel protein and grain free diets. Veterinarians, including Clocktower Animal Hospital, have been seeing what seems to be an increased frequency of certain types of heart disease that may be associated with diets that are grain free, high in legumes (lentils, peas, chickpeas, etc.) or are unique protein sources (Kangaroo, Duck, Bison, etc.). The FDA, veterinary universities, and our local veterinary cardiology group (CVCA, www.cvcavets.com) are working together to try to understand this problem. Attached is a link to an informative article written from the Tufts College of Veterinary Medicine Nutrition service that explains this issue in more detail. Please don’t hesitate to ask the veterinarians at Clocktower for advice regarding diet choices for your pet(s).
