Here is sweet Roxy getting her echocardiogram done at Banfield Village in Leesburg. She had a murmur without any symptoms. The exam shows she has a bit of mitral valve regurgitation (abnormal valve), but fortunately it was caught early and medication should help her. Here she is getting some love from my assistant, Lauren. We love our patients!

Easter Lily Poisoning in Cats

Please be aware that many types of lilies found in floral arrangements, including Easter lilies, are very toxic to cats. Even the water from the vase can kill a cat! Please spread the word! You might save a cat.

Personally, this is my most hated type of poisoning, as my sister’s cat died from lily poisoning years ago. So my mission? To spread the word so all pet owners are aware of this horrible, dangerous poison!

The New LCAS Barn Cat Program

Did You Know That You Can Adopt a Wonderful Feline for Your Barn at LLoudoun County Animal ServicesWe see all kinds of cats at LCAS including formerly outdoor, indoor/outdoor, semi-social or semi-feral cats that are not a good fit for adoption into family homes. However, these cats would be very happy living out their days in a barn, on a farm, at a business, and in other safe locations. Our Barn Cat Program is designed connect these rough and tumble and slightly sassy cats with families who have this kind of set up. These cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and adopted to families who appreciate ‘working cats’ for critter patrol and can provide a safe, appropriate environment such as a barn, stable, garage, or business.

What’s the Process? Sign me up!
LCAS keeps a list of community members wishing to adopt a barn cat. When LCAS receives a cat that may be a good fit, a staff member will call to let you know that a possible adoption match has been made!

To place your name on the Barn Cat Wish List, please call 703-777-0406, email us or stop by the Shelter to speak with one of our friendly and knowledgeable customer service staff!

What's better than waking up with the kids on Easter morning to discover your yard is covered in candy and trinket filled eggs? Not having to be sneaky and put them out there yourself without getting caught!

We can help! For a donation of $50, we will scatter 30 eggs in your yard the night before Easter. Our bunny helpers are stuffing eggs to get ready. The number of houses we can visit is limited, so make sure you reserve your spot on our route early!

Please help us find our missing cat Grigio. He lives at 922 Chancellor St. and was
last seen Sunday evening (3/24/2019). He is an indoor/outdoor cat who has never
been gone for more than 4 hours. If you have him, please return him, no
questions asked. If you have seen him or have any other information about where
he may be, please email [email protected] or call 571.206.8375 anytime.
Please keep an eye out for him; look in your sheds, garage or anywhere a cat

right!
Thank you very much!

FDA Provides Update on Investigation into Potential Connection Between Certain Diets and Cases of Canine Heart Disease

If you are concerned about any of your patients possibly having developed DCM as a result of these boutique diets, we can asses with an echocardiogram.

The FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is providing a status update on the investigation into reports of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs eating certain pet foods. Many of these dogs are from breeds without a known genetic predisposition to DCM.

Echo today on a 12 yr old Jack Russel with a grade 4/6 heart murmur. The top of the screen is the left ventricle. The left atrium is at the bottom with color flow Doppler. The color should be red (indicating blood flow toward the probe) but there is a mosaic of color because of regurgitation from the mitral valve. Very common problem in the dog. Pimobendan can help prevent him going into heart failure.

Love Struck Cat Has Visited His Girlfriend Everyday For The Past 2 Years

Love is a powerful thing, and many people have their own definition of what love is. Many people wonder if animals are capable of love – if so, the following story should help convince them that cats can and do have the capacity to love each other! In 2014, Christina Viscusi adopted Sophie, and th...

To echo or not to echo? Incidentally detected heart murmurs in dogs and cats • MSPCA-Angell

In honor of Valentines Day, here is some information for veterinarians about when it would be best to consider an echocardiogram. If you determine that your patient needs an echocardiogram, I can do this in your office and have it overread by a cardiologist. Convenient for your clients and a very reasonable price.

Ultrasound pregnancy check for the delightful Cassie at Friends of Homeless Animals! She is as sweet as she is cute. No puppies for Cassie (slightly disappointing as she would've made an adorable mommy). She was found as a stray intact female wandering the streets when FOHA rescued her. Happy story; she has about 10+ people on a list to adopt her!

Happy One Month Anniversary to Hopper and his family!

After being at the shelter for nine years and watching hundreds (thousands?) of other dogs leave for their forever homes, Hopper finally got to take HIS ride home on Oct 5. For those who haven't been following his story, Hopper is a 14 year old Pit Bull mix. His age and his breed, plus the fact that he needs a home with no other dogs, and he has some health issues, have made it challenging for us to find a home for him, but not for lack of trying. His story has been posted on our Facebook and Instagram page numerous times. He's been posted on Susie's Senior Dogs five times (and almost every time, each post had over 1000 shares). He was even featured in the story NBC Washington did on the Village dog runs. I am ecstatic to report that he is not only in a home, but he is doing awesome and they love him to pieces. He gets daily walks, has plenty of toys, and sleeps in his mom's bed at night.

FOHA checked to see how he was doing and here's what his mom said: Things are going so well with Hopper. He really has settled in nicely and it seems he knows this is his home and he's not going anywhere! He's very attached to me already, which I love! But he's great with the rest of the family too. We are all soooo in love with him.

Yay for Hopper and his family! Also, a shout out to our social media team for the part they played in getting his name and story out there (especially Instagram!), and thank you to everyone who shared his story.

If you'd like to follow Hopper's adventures, he has his own Instagram @hippity_hopper1

Adorable little Oriole had a cryptorchid testicle hunt on Oct 31 at Stephen's City Animal Hospital. In the picture on the right, you can see the testicle in the abdomen, just in front of his urinary bladder. It's defined by the white line, or "median raphe" in the picture. Successful surgery for Oriole!
