A Day in the Life of a Rescue Volunteer 💔❤️
Yesterday afternoon, one of our amazing fosters, Michelle, drove over an hour for the second time this week into rural north Mississippi. We’d been worried about a pregnant mama dog who hadn’t been seen in days. When Michelle finally found her, it was clear she had given birth.
The mama dog led Michelle straight to her pups, tucked away under a house through a small hole in the house. Sadly, the homeowners who don’t even own the mama refused to let her or the pups come to rescue. They insisted on keeping them and deciding what to do with the family. They said no despite our concerns about the pups living in the dirt under the house with no protection. Michelle begged, left her contact information, she was ready to bring them somewhere warm, dry, and safe… but for now, the answer was no. 💔
As Michelle started the long drive home, we learned of another urgent situation: just miles away, a mama dog had rejected her 3-day-old puppies—tiny lives with no food, warmth, or care. I told Michelle, and even though she had never bottle-fed before, she said yes without hesitation.
By the time the night was over, six of the pups were safe (the others had sadly been given away before we got there). Michelle drove hours to meet Krysta, another volunteer experienced in bottle feeding and newborn care waiting with warm pads, bottles, and loving arms. Those babies went from cold, hungry, and hopeless to safe, warm, and full-bellied. ❤️
Michelle left her home before 4 p.m. and didn’t get back until 10 p.m. She and Krysta are true rescue heroes. 🐾
We may not have saved the first mama and her pups yet—but we are not giving up. For now, six tiny lives have a chance because of two amazing women who gave their whole day to rescue work.
We are so grateful for our fosters. They are selfless, tireless, and truly the heart of rescue.
Thank you, Michelle and Krysta. To all our amazing fosters and all Fosters !! You are heroes!! 🐶❤️
