D and R Kennels Champion Labradors Breeding and Training We are a family owned kennel that breeds, raises and trains champion Pointing Labrador Retrievers.

We can teach the basics (house training, sit, stay, come and down) along with force fetch on up. Our dogs are part of our family along with our hunting partners. Our puppies make outstanding family pets and outstanding hunters in the field or the duck blind.

TRAINING TIP: Voice or No Voice?

Every cast delivers information.

One of the most important decisions you make is whether to use your voice on a cast ("back!")

Many handlers think voice only creates momentum.

But using your voice also affects the direction your dog travels in. It does this by encouraging additional rotation as your dog turns to take the cast.

Sometimes that's exactly what you want.

If your dog is breaking down or overcasting, you must add voice to create momentum.

⚠️ But adding your voice can work against you. For example, when casting into the wind, dogs naturally want to over-rotate. Adding your voice may create even more rotation, making it difficult to achieve the lateral change in direction you're looking for.

Before every cast, ask yourself:

Do I need more momentum? More rotation?

If the answer is yes, use your voice.

If not, a silent cast may be the better choice.

The best handlers don't just give casts. They choose the information that will create the response they want.
