Mending Mutts

Mending Mutts Mending Mutts is an animal organization dedicated to finding forever homes for homeless animals in Humboldt County. I see all these animals as worth saving.

The primary focus of this organization is to mend homeless animals with medical or behavioral needs. It is important to note that this is NOT a rescue organization. I am a lone person, trying to make a big difference in the lives of animals in need. I have been fostering animals for 10 years, often with a rescue to support me. Recently, however, I have been more focused on taking in dogs and cats

with special or medical needs without financial support from a rescue organization. More specifically, I take in animals that have experienced injuries and whose owners are unable or unwilling to treat them. Often these animals have very manageable injuries that just require extra TLC. Once they have recovered from their injuries, they will go up for adoption. All of my fosters spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, heartworm tested, and on flea/heartworm prevention before they go up for adoption.

Say hello to Hup! Our littlest, kittiest "mutt". She is a sweet and playful kitten that we think is 6-7 weeks old. She enjoys human companionship, but doesn't mind her alone time. She is cautious around other animals, but is getting more comfortable with them and could adapt to a home with other respectful critters. Little Hup will not be available for adoption for a few more weeks, but we are taking applications now!
Hup came to Mending Mutts because a dog got ahold of her and now she has a large hernia that needs surgical correction. The surgery is going to be $550. If you are willing to donate to help Hup get her surgery, please visit our website and click the "DONATE" button!

Meet Beatrice! She is a 2-year old Chihuahua mix and is our newest Mending Mutt! She is incredibly loving and people oriented. She would love to follow her person around everywhere they go and snuggle up next to them every chance she gets. She is being fostered with two dogs and two cats. At first, she wasn't sure about sharing the attention. Now, she has figured out her place within the pack and seems to really enjoy the company of her furry pals. She even wants to play with her foster siblings! However, Bea's favorite thing in the world is being with her person, and she would love to find a home where she doesn't have to be left alone very often.

This sweet and special girl came to us when she needed an emergency C-section. None of her puppies survived, but now Sweet B gets to start her new life and will never have to experience the struggles of trying to have puppies ever again. We were luckily able to afford to get her the surgery immediately thanks to all of our previous donations. However, paying for the surgery has taken a decent chunk out of our savings. If anyone would like to make a donation so that we can quickly act and help animals like Beatrice in the future, please go to our website (link in bio) and click the donation link!

If you think you're interested in adopting Beatrice, email us at [email protected] or fill out an adoption application on our website.

Update: September 29, 2020: The change in format of Facebook has complicated the way we post Humboldt County Shelter dogs. We are unable to move dogs from album to album, and now, for some unknown reason we have been unable to delete dogs from albums as they leave the Shelter. Since our albums are no longer able to be properly managed, we are migrating to a sharing format where we find posts of adoptable and lost dogs ending up the Humboldt County Animal Shelter and share them to this page.
If someone out there can share with us how to move photos from one album to another we would love it. The not being able to delete photos we are hoping is a glitch that will eventually resolve itself!
Thank you for your patience and support for the Humboldt County Shelter dogs!

Help spread the word so that we can find these wonderful dogs new homes and free up some much needed space at the Humboldt County Animal Shelter.

What does a person get for the adoption fee charged by the Shelter? A great deal! Adoptable dogs are neutered or spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, temperament tested, and some dogs, thanks to Redwood Pals Rescue even have some dog obedience training classes under their belt!

Please come to the Humboldt County Animal Shelter and check out over 30 adoptable dogs waiting their forever homes.
