We are pleased to share that PPF Precious Gemstone’s genetic test results are now complete. Analysis confirmed that he is negative for both known Curly Coat variants, KRT25 and SP6. This indicates that Carlos carries a previously unidentified Curly Coat gene, contributing to ongoing research into genetic variants responsible for the Curly phenotype in horses.

Preliminary findings also suggest that Carlos’ gene is dominant, as evidenced by inheritance of the same curly expression in his foal. Further testing and fiber studies are planned to better understand this new genetic pattern.

This discovery marks the establishment of the Gemstone Miniature Curly Line — a distinct lineage representing a new expression within the Curly gene family.

We extend our gratitude to Bunny and the ICHO Research Program for their continued dedication to advancing Curly horse genetics and for including Carlos in their ongoing studies. ❤️
