Available in Alamosa CO! Serious inquires out of area can contact us. We can contact shelter and help with transport. I’ve met him. He’s worth the effort!

Danger danger its Ranger! This active lovebug is in search a furever family. He is a big eyed goofball who will steal your heart. Ranger will require a fenced in yard and a home check to verify. He doesn't like a small kenneled area and we will be a much calmer dude in his own yard. Ranger is the kind of guy who has a hard time finding his place in this world. He does have adoption restrictions and in a perfect world that wouldn't matter. Truth is every adoption restriction eliminates another potential adopter.

Let's review Ranger's needs. Ranger needs to be the only dog. He will need a fenced in yard. An owner who will commit to positive reinforcement training and still maintain control of Ranger is a must. He also should not be in a home with cats or young children. Ranger is a bull in a china shop and will unintentionally harm a young babe.
We have everything included in his adoption to help give him a great start. A bed, harness, enrichment toys. food and treats! His adoption fee is $75.00 and includes all of his shots and neuter. Come visit this lovebug today!

Do you have a pool that needs a dog? We have a dog that needs a pool! Sunny Bunny is at her best in the yard with her pool and ball to fetch! An active lady who needs an active owner. Her loyalty is second to none. She has become a staff favorite at the shelter and we are determined to find her the right home. We recommend no cats but she had some young children visit her and she did great with them. Older than 5 would probably be best. If you have another dog you will need to bring it with you to meet Sunny. Our sweet Sunny has had little interest since she came to the shelter and is our longest resident at the moment going on two months. We have decided to reduce her adoption fee to $50.00. Sunny still needs to be spay but we will take care of that for you!

Let Sunny bring some Sunshine to your life! An active gal who enjoys fun in the sun, a swimming pool and long hikes. Sunny is a pit mix and rough player with other dogs. She will need to meet your current dog to see if they can handle her fun, rambunctious personality or be the only dog in her house. Her buddy has to enjoy a good chest bump and serious romping in the dirt to appreciate Sunny. Staff has been working on her leash skills and she is doing excellent. Sunny does not like being kenneled and would do best in a secure fenced yard and as part of the family, which we want for all of our dogs.. Because of her energy we recommend a home without cats and no kids under 12. If you have younger children and would still like to meet Sunny bring them to shelter and we can see how she does. It is her "bull in a China shop" personality that is most concerning. A child with good dog skills may be just fine. "BOOK NOW" to meet this sweet gal whose loyalty is second to none! Her adoption fee is $150.00 and includes all shots and her spay!

Howdy Y'all! I'm Woody! I am a Lab/Hound mix with the best characteristics of both breeds. I am Loyal, Goofy and Loveable. I love adventures and am very active dog, but I still love giving the biggest hugs and kisses. I've lost my home and am looking for a new family. I would do best in a household with older children (10yrs+) because I love giving hugs. I am a goofy boy with endless amounts of love to give.
I am looking forward to my future family coming to see me. If you are interested, call to book an appointment to visit me! PREPARE TO FALL IN LOVE WITH MY GOOFINESS!

Adoption Spotlight: Marble

Marble is a beefy boy but knows how to have a good time. He walks well on leash, is housebroken, and enjoys a jog or a peanut butter stuffed Kong if you’re in Quarantine! He has brains to match his brawn; he can beat you in a game of hide and go seek! Marble is looking for a mildly active family who can provide a balance between snuggles and fitness. Get buff with Marble this summer! If you are interested in adoption, contact Valley Humane League by phone or online. Marble’s Adoption Cost is $150 and includes his annual vaccines as well as rabies, plus his neuter surgery this Friday!

Important Information

A Letter to the Community from Valley Humane League:

We know times are tough right now, but we need our community’s help. If you are considering relinquishing your dog, but it is not an emergency, please wait until this crisis has passed. Our shelter is overwhelmed with homeless dogs and we need space to continue helping lost and stray dogs.

If you or someone in your family gets Covid-19, as long as your health is not greatly diminished and you are able, please keep your pet in your home, and give them plenty of love! Your pet is not going to get sick from Covid-19, and you’ll find them to be a comfort during turbulent times.

If you are healthy, but know your neighbor or friend is ill and considering relinquishing a pet, please offer to temporarily care for their pet until they are well.

If you are unable to work during this time and need assistance with feeding your pets please attend the Colorado Pet Food Pantry on March 30 from 12-2pm. This will be a drive-up only event in the parking lot at 513 6th Street Alamosa.

Lastly, if you are able, please adopt! This will help us free up space for more dogs. And if you can’t adopt, consider donating to help all dogs in our care. Valley Humane is open for adopts by appointment. Please call 719-589-3385.

You know the saying, it takes a village, right now our community is one amazing village that can truly support one another. We can get through this together.

Wishing the entire community health and safety.

Do not adopt a dog to this man. He brought a dog into our local shelter as a stray. He came back two weeks later and adopted the dog because his girlfriend “felt bad”. We didn’t even charge him and we spay her. Then 10 days later he took the dog to Pueblo, 100 miles away, and dropped it off as a stray. AGAIN! Violating his adoption contract to return her. Please share his face with all your rescue friends so that he’s not allowed to do this to another dog. His last name is Farriola

This van is a vital part of shelter. Last week it broke down half way to our transfer partner. We picked it up today and the damage was very expensive. VERY! Four figure expensive. If we were not able to transfer dogs on a regular basis some of our dogs would sit in the shelter for months. We need to ask for donations to help with this unexpected expense. Anything you can donate helps! Small or large it is all appreciated!!!

This is my shelter now and we could use some help! ANYTHING is appreciated!

According to the SPCA and Humane Society, in the next 4-8 weeks, you'll all be seeing the "We need to re-home our pet..." posts. These are the people who went ahead and purchased puppies & kittens as Christmas gifts who are suddenly allergic, moving, having a baby, don't have time, their kids won't take care of it, didn't think they'd get so big, blah, blah, blah. Problem is, almost 90% of unwanted pets, sadly end up in kill shelters.

Allow me to break it down for you.

You didn't know you had an allergy? Oops. Don't let the pet suffer, buy some allergy medicine, if you love your pet, it's absolutely worth a shot.

You're moving? What city are you moving to that doesn't allow dogs? Bullsh*tville? You have a responsibility to your living, breathing family member to plan ahead to find a house, apartment or condo that will ALLOW your family member. Period.

Oh, you had no idea you were due to have a baby in 2 months? Interesting. Get a dog trainer if you're housing a breed you fear might become an issue. It's also worth a shot.

Don't have time for ONE 15 minute walk, or to have a dog just sit next to you while you're home? Really? So they're better off in a shelter than waiting in your house for you to get home? Ok, perhaps get another pet to keep them company or look for a local dog-sitter.

Oh, you mean your 5 year old didn't step up to the plate to feed, walk and scoop poop? And this surprised you? I guess it's time for YOU to step up and model responsibility for your child.

Wrong size? Not cute as an adult? Not quite the personality you expected? Look in a mirror, how did you turn out? Should we send you back? 😡

Step up-Jimmy T #postyourpet #unconditionallove #familymembers 🐶😿

I’m not sure a lot of people know this but when we first started and needed money to become a non-profit a friend of Chris’ made a generous donation in Chris’ name so we could pay our IRS fees. Since then ARSC has rescued over 300 dogs. Happy Birthday Chris! You had great taste in friends!

You know what to do... today and everyday, go out and do some good! Happy birthday, Haney. We miss you. ♡

We're calling him Handsome Henry because, well, JUST LOOK AT HIM!! Yup, this dude is quite a looker, but he's not stuck up at all - just another homeless critter looking for love. Henry is a blend of gorgeous but entirely unknown breeds, about 8 months old, neutered, vaccinated and ready for adoption. He's great with other dogs and cats. INTRODUCING KATIE'S DOG OF THE WEEK: CURTIS!

Curtis is the coolest of cool. He has a crooked front leg which just adds to his coolness. He has personality for days! Fun and friendly and kissy and have I mentioned cool! He doesn't need dark shades or a leather jacket, his coolness is au natural. This dude is one of a kind and you would be lucky to have him in your world. Dog friendly, cat friendly and COOL!
He was recently neuter and he has his shots so he is ready to fly the coop! His adoption fee is $175.00 and we'll throw in a microchip for $10 extra. We think he is about 5 years old. His crooked leg has been inspected by a vet. It is an old growth plate injury that was never repaired. It doesn't cause him any issues now. Vet stated may become arthritic when he ages.

Making a Difference One Dog at a Time

We are a group that literally cannot help themselves. We hate that overpopulation has made the household dog a disposable living thing. While we rescue the homeless and work a foster based program we also actively and passionately support spay and neuter programs. Don’t just sit there, get involved.

Please help! I found this stray and kept her for about a week. She was integrating with my family, and we bonded very quickly. I took her to Norman Animal Welfare on Monday the 28th for a 72 hour stray hold to see if she would be claimed. I gave them very explicit instructions to contact me or my wife at the end of the 72 hours, as we are adopting her. I was worried when I dropped her off. I asked them not to let anything happen to her. I called every day, but they were busy, and I only got through once. I went to their shelter this evening to check on her status because I figured she was recovering from her spay surgery. I was informed that she was put on a transport to Colorado with the Central Oklahoma Humane Society on 11/01. They don't open until 11am. I was devastated, and a woman at Norman Animal Welfare said, "Unfortunately, things like this happen." I'm worried I won't find her. Please help me find my dog. Doberman mix Female Probably around 3 or 4 months old Please help me get her home. We have everything ready for her. Update: Central Oklahoma Humane Society will not disclose where she was transported. Please just hit share.
Help get my dog back to me! Lost at Alamosa wildlife hunting near parking lot 1 I will be in Alamosa today searching some more!!
Great people! I adopted a pup to their family so it goes without saying we recommend their boarding facility. Located in Alamosa.
Please please adopt! Don't shop!
Can anyone help out Conour?
We KNOW you are in the Valley too. You can't get away with it forever.
Please notice at the bottom it says this might not apply to all dogs. KNOW YOUR DOG! My dogs are NEVER around kids so there's no way I would ever allow it unsupervised.
The struggle is real.
Please attend if you can!!!
