Veterinary Specialists of Alaska We are dedicated to providing expert veterinary care to your pets with our specialized training. Since then, we have steadily expanded our practice.

Veterinary Specialists of Alaska (VSOA) has its roots in Alaska Veterinary Surgical Services (AVSS), which was established by Dr. Mike Edwards in September 1996. While our name has changed to reflect the growing scope of our services, our commitment to our clients remains unchanged. Our top priority continues to be providing you and your pet with the most advanced treatment options available.

✨ A heartfelt milestone for Alaska’s pets and families 🐾

Yesterday marked the closing of Veterinary Specialists of Alaska (VSOA) — a cornerstone of specialty veterinary care since 1996. For nearly three decades, VSOA set the standard for advanced medicine and compassionate care.

Now, all VSOA services have moved to PET Emergency Treatment, where the incredible work, values, and relationships built continue on as many of the same talented people you know are continuing that legacy—providing top-notch specialty and emergency care, all under one roof. ❤️

🐾 Memorial Day Pet Safety Tips 🐾

While you're enjoying BBQs, beach days, and backyard fun this Memorial Day Weekend, don’t forget to keep your furry friends safe!

🔹 Watch the Menu – Holiday treats like chocolate, grapes, onions, avocado, and alcohol can be toxic to pets. Keep all food and drinks out of reach!

🔹 Water Safety First – Never leave pets unsupervised near pools, lakes, or the ocean. If your pup is boating, use a pet life jacket and prevent them from drinking salt or pool water.

🔹 ID, Please! – Make sure your pet’s ID tags and microchip info are current. Fireworks and open doors increase the risk of pets escaping.

🔹 Stay Cool & Hydrated – Always provide fresh water and shade to avoid dehydration or overheating.

☀️ Wishing you a safe and happy holiday weekend!

📢 Please note: Our hospital will be open closed on Memorial Day, but PET Emergency Treatment will be open 24/7 for emergencies.

📅🐾 May is National Chip Your Pet Month! 🐾📅

Microchipping is a simple, safe way to greatly increase the chances of being reunited with your pet if they ever get lost. Unlike collars or tags, a microchip is permanent and can’t fall off or get damaged.

✔ Permanent ID
✔ Increases the chance of a safe return
✔ Works 24/7, no batteries or maintenance needed

If your pet is already chipped, take a moment this month to make sure your contact information is up to date!
