Keeping employees safe as restrictions are lifted

The health and safety of humans and animals is the number one priority for #pet businesses as they re-open after #COVID19 closures. For example, Rochester Pet & Country Store is doing curbside pickup, moving kennels outside the grooming room, employees wearing face masks and sanitizing surfaces between each client, to name a few.

A few, non-essential businesses were able to partially reopen their doors on Monday which included Grooming Tails - a dog grooming business that operates out of Rochester Pet and Country Store.

Thank you for signing the letter, and thank you for reaching out. As a groomer, you know the misconceptions that exist in the public about your services. They think of you like barbers and hair stylists, not considering the difficulty of what you do, the necessity of carefully cleaning ears and trimming nails, or the training you receive to identify skin and coat conditions that can be warning signs of veterinary issues. When we have the chance to talk to lawmakers and their staff, they start to get it. But it takes time and attention, two things that are in short supply at the moment. An open letter like the one you signed on to works for subjects that are easy to grasp - like the need for food and veterinary care. But without the context and detail necessary to help people understand why grooming should be essential, including it in an open letter isn't going to help our case. It can even work against us, as the media and others sensationalize and oversimplify everything. We are doing the work behind the scenes, in one on one conversations and targeted outreach, to try to convince lawmakers and staff that grooming should be included in "essential pet services." Thanks for all you're doing, too.
