He's out of his enclosure with target training!
Bruce is skyrocketing with his training. He is opening his mouth on cue and eagerly targeting to the stick. We use the target stick to cue him back to his enclosure where his warm pond is, that he enjoys being in.
We are shaping his comfort in being out of his enclosure so his world can greatly expand. We can build him larger basking areas outside of his enclosure where he will soon be able to roam this room. We'll have to build him a larger pond as well.
Once he is comfortable out of his enclosure, we can start the crate and scale training. He's also getting comfortable with me standing and slowly moving behind him. He's also getting more comfortable with seeing others in this room.
For those that may be new to our page and our work, Bruce is a young American alligator that was sent to us from the local humane society when found in a local waterway of NW Ohio. He is very nervous of people and the outdoors. Our goal is to get him a private outdoor area with a pond where he can relax in his own retreat and continue to be an ambassador of his species.
All of his training can be found in our Advanced Applied Animal Training & Behavior Membership, along with the wolf and lemur training about to begin.

Remember, if you want to speak with a veterinarian, many have long wait lists, and you will want to make an appointment as soon as possible.

Giving your dog a special place to call their own will help them feel as comfortable as possible.

Check local listings for displays and events that may impact your pet.

Ensure all microchips and tags are up to date and consider investing in GPS collars or geolocation tags.

On July 4, many animals become startled or frightened by the noise of fireworks. This may cause them to flee from familiar environments and people, and sadly become lost.
