Located in Northern Virginia, Friends of Homeless Animals has been serving the Washington metropolitan area since 1973. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill shelter dedicated to saving abandoned and abused dogs and cats. We provide rescue, medical care, rehabilitation, and adoption services in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC metropolitan areas.

Best buddy Ashland would like to wish everyone a Happy Spoil Your Dog Day!!! Ashland is one of the very best boys and we have no idea why he's not been adopted. While he does have a little bit of stranger danger, he does well with slow introductions (especially if there are snacks involved). He doesn’t pull at all on his leash, and he’ll walk right by your side for miles and miles (although he may stop every once in a while to roll around in smelly spots). He’s also the very best car passenger and sometimes even pokes his head up front to give little kisses. City life is a little bit scary for Ashland, so he would be so happy if he could find a nice home in the country with a fenced in backyard for him to run around in. Ashland would also like to be your number one best friend, so he would be best in a home with an experienced owner, no children, and no other pets. Ashland can’t wait to find his furever home!

Jakob is a sweet, energetic boy with a huge heart and an even bigger love for people. His favorite hobbies include giving hugs, handing out kisses, and playing an enthusiastic game of fetch. With his affectionate personality, playful spirit, and curious mind, Jakob is the kind of dog who will keep you smiling and make every day a little more fun. I am a gentle, sweet soul who is looking for a dedicated partner to help me on my journey toward a healthier life. Say hello to Ruby Woo, a 2-year-old, 52lb female Hound! She’s a sweet and gentle girl who is still learning about the human world. She can be very shy with new people and in new environments, but she’s slowly getting braver. Once she connects with people, she loves interacting with them and will greet them with excited barks as they approach her kennel. She loves to go for walks and really enjoys exploring all the smells. She does well with other dogs. Meet Cash Money Records, a 7-year-old, 64lb male Boxer mix! He’s a sweet and cuddly boy who loves being with his people. He enjoys playing with toys and chasing balls around the yard and really loves going for walks. He’s also loves to snuggle up with his favorite humans, get lots of pets, and take naps on the couch. He would like to find a home where someone is around often so he doesn’t have to spend too much time alone and can get out for daily adventures. He would like a family who is patient and understands he still needs work on his leash manners and his tendency to counter surf if food is left out. LOVE Never Grows Old. ❤️

Too often, older dogs are overlooked because adopters worry about future medical costs. Since 2018, our Senior Care Plan has helped remove that barrier: waived adoption fees for dogs 8+ and up to $1,500 toward approved medical expenses or pet insurance.

This year alone, we've spent more than $40,000 on medical and dental care for our senior dogs, from surgeries and ongoing medications to everyday veterinary care.

This summer, we're raising $70,000 to help ensure every animal at FOHA gets the care and support they need, including our seniors.

Greetings, my name is Draco. I am a sweet and loving boy who is truly as gentle as they come. I was relinquished through no fault of my own and I am hoping for a calm and caring home where I can finally settle in, rest, and feel safe again. I am the kind of dog who loves quiet moments, soft voices, and simply being near my people. Meet Pepper, a 1-year-old, 8lb female domestic shorthair! She’s a sweet and playful girl who has been working on her confidence since she came to FOHA. She’s no longer merely hiding and observing like she did when she first arrived at the shelter – now she’s venturing out to explore and play. She enjoys the company of other cats, particularly her brother Little Man. She would probably enjoy being adopted into a family with a calm and confident feline friend. She would love to find a home with a patient family who understands she’ll need time and encouragement to fully come into her own. Come meet this adorable girl!
