Okay, let's talk about your dog and the holidays.

I know we all want our dogs to do all of the people things with us but sometimes that is not in the dog's best interest. I get an increase in frantic phone calls and messages during the holidays because dogs are often in unfamiliar situations.

As humans it is our responsibility to protect our dogs from situations that may overstimulate them. It is our responsibility to make sure every person who interacts with the dog is respecting its boundaries. We can have a dog who is laid-back most of the time be placed in a chaotic situation like Thanksgiving dinner, or Christmas brunch and have the dog behave way out of character.

When we are in these situations, especially if there is alcohol involved it is difficult to properly supervise and manage dogs.

My recommendation is to leave the dog home. If you can't leave the dog home, be sure there is a quiet space where your dog can stay undisturbed and keeping the dog leashed when it's out of its quiet space.

If you're having company in your home there's nothing wrong with putting the dog in a kennel or in a separate space.

I hope you all find this helpful and it alleviates any guilt you may have about leaving your dog home for the holidays!

Behavior modification isn't about avoiding every trigger. It's about learning how to work through them.

Today we had an incredible session with Dallas, who has been working through some significant reactive behaviors.

One of the most valuable resources we have at Intuitive Wolf K9 Training is access to dogs with different temperaments, personalities, and levels of neutrality. Having the right distraction dog allows us to introduce challenging situations in a controlled environment, at an appropriate pace, while teaching both the dog and handler how to navigate them successfully.

Today, Dallas was introduced to Coyote, our most neutral dog, who was being handled by Mia, our newest trainer in training!

Coyote was the perfect starting point for this exercise. His calm, neutral demeanor allowed us to begin exposing Dallas to another dog without adding unnecessary pressure to the situation.

And Dallas absolutely surprised his owner with how well he handled it!

We believe there's a big difference between managing reactivity by simply avoiding triggers and actually addressing the behaviors through structured, intentional training. Our goal is to help dogs and their owners build the skills and confidence to navigate the real world together.

We even had an unexpected participant when James the cat made his debut and attempted to stir up a little trouble. 🀣

We wrapped up this beautiful fall afternoon with a walk down to the lake, giving Dallas an opportunity to enjoy some time exploring the shoreline after a productive session.

This is what behavior modification looks like. Real dogs. Real distractions. Real-life progress.

There's something pretty incredible about watching a dog run freely and simply enjoy being a dog.

What you don't see in this video is the amount of work it took to get here.

Soren came to us as a rescue who required an incredible amount of structure, consistency, and training just to navigate everyday life. The simplest things were once a challenge for her.

And now? Here she is, running along the shoreline, enjoying the freedom she's worked so hard to earn.

This is why I believe so strongly in the importance of structure, clear communication, and accountability. Training isn't about restricting a dog's life. It's about giving them the skills to experience more of it.

We provide a structured environment where dogs receive individualized care, exercise, enrichment, and consistency throughout their stay.

We are also equipped to accommodate dogs with dog aggression or reactivity. Our space and experience allows us to safely separate dogs when necessary, ensuring they can enjoy their stay without being required to interact with other dogs.

Boarding Rates:
Standard Boarding – $85/night
Current Training Clients – $75/night
Additional Dog (Same Household) – $50/night
Holiday Boarding – $100/night

While I still firmly believe that dog training is most effective when owners are actively involved in the process, I also recognize that sometimes a little extra hands-on help can make all the difference.

Our new Hybrid Board & Train Program combines private, one-on-one training sessions with structured board and train at our beautiful new location in Alburgh, Vermont!

Here's how it works:

βœ”οΈ 3 private training sessions BEFORE boarding – We'll work together to establish expectations, introduce training techniques, and make sure you understand the foundation of your dog's training.

βœ”οΈ Board & Train – Your dog will stay with us for structured, consistent training focused on obedience, behavior modification, and building reliable habits.

βœ”οΈ 2 follow-up sessions AFTER boarding – Once your dog returns home, we'll work together to transfer those skills into your everyday routine and make sure you feel confident maintaining their progress.
