BESA Babies Dedicated to finding forever homes for Albuquerque's kitten population. B.E.S.A- Begin, Embrace, Survive, Adopt >^..^<

Our cats are all neutered/spayed and grow up with human and feline company. Seasonally, an astonishing amount of kittens are turned into the pound. The majority of them are taken in without their mothers and for that reason face the chance of being euthanized due to the attention they require for the first few weeks of their lives. A contributing factor is the minimal amount of people who are will

ing to lend their time and heart as fosters. And all this is simply because cat owners do not take preventative action by spaying and neutering. From this came BESA (established in May 2013), in loving memory of the coolest tortie that ever lived. Best Friends, the city of Albuquerque Animal Welfare, New Mexico Animal Friends, Watermelon Ranch and PACA sponsored the work of two rescuers who strong headedly took on the massive task of bottle feeding (at times, up to two liters of kitten formula in a 24 hour period) and finding few fosters for over 200 kittens under a week old and at times only hours old. Diligently they cared for fragile kittens through sickness and uncertainty. In spite of all the sleepless nights and painful losses their care resulted in thriving, most loving, playful and happy kittens who are now in search of a forever home. An Overwhelming amount of kittens come through BESA so we are in need of fosters in order to provide these kittens with the chance of life they deserve. All it takes is action-Begin, the compassion to Embrace which gives kittens hope to Survive thus leading to a forever home-Adopt

ADOPTION ALERT

The first thing most people say when they meet Handsome, is "This cat is humongous!" This is usually followed by, "What does he eat? Jack Russells?" Yes, our Handsome may be the size of a medium sized dog, but he's the coolest cat/dog you'll ever meet (and he poops in a box, which makes him better than a dog)!

Handsome was found in a ditch. He was very sick--possibly poisoned and probably beat. He was wary of people at first, but he's come a long way. He loves to stretch out and be pet. He doesn't like small spaces unless he puts himself there (a consequence of the human inflicted trauma he went through), so we just let him hang out in the Streetcat Hub intake house and welcome our visitors (when he's awake).

Handsome says you're welcome to come visit him, but he'd like me to remind you that it's customary to bring an offering (such as a treat the size of a Jack Russell). To meet Handsome, please call Jayne at (505)681-4713 or Rose at (505)440-7456.

ADOPTION ALERT!

Who is this good-looking cat in the "Mrs. Thompson" box? Is it Mrs. Thompson? It's not! It's actually Toby, but sometimes he likes to go undercover, because he's got a great sense of playfulness!

Toby was abandoned by an owner who was moving out of state, and only wanted to take some of her cats. Toby was miserable when we first met him, and we worked very hard to gain his trust and teach him that not all humans are bad.

Today, Toby is a loving, playful 4-year-old. He lives in the intake building at the Streetcat Hub, and gives everyone--human and feline alike--a warm, purring welcome!

If you'd like to set up a time to meet Toby, please call Jayne at (505)681-4713 or Rose at (505)440-7456.

Adoption Alert!

Meet Taro, a 14-month-old boy who was rescued from a bad situation when he was six-months-old. Taro is learning to trust people again, and we love to see his playful side come out when he sees a toy that interests him (feathers are quite popular)!

Taro is looking for a patient home that's willing to keep working with him as he continues to come out of his shell. He's doing great, he just needs a stable home so that he knows he's safe.

Would you like to come visit Taro? He'd love to meet you! Call Jayne at (505)681-4713 or Rose at (505)440-7456 to set up a visit with Taro.

Adoption Alert!

This furry 1-year-old prima donna is Sam. Contrary to popular belief, Sam DOES have the capacity to walk on his own--he simply prefers to be carried or travel via shoe (as pictured). Sam is loving, snugly, wonderful, and absolutely purr-fect.

Sam has FIV, so his immune system isn't very strong. Many people think that FIV is very contagious, or that it is deadly. In fact, FIV is very difficult for a cat to pass on to other cats (Sam does not have to be segregated), and most indoor cats with FIV live long lives. Sam is healthy, except for a tendency for getting colds (so yes, he makes a snorting sound sometimes). We've provided a helpful link on FIV if you're interested: http://www.pawsfla.com/info/display?PageID=10542

So, if you'd like to meet the coolest cat we know, call Jayne at (505)681-4713 or Rose at (505)440-7456 to set up an appointment to come carry Sam around!

Adoption Alert!

This gorgeous boy is Sai, a 17-month-old Siamese. All we can say is that you absolutely have to meet Sai and see for yourself how much he loves his scratches! You have to get them just right though--not too soft, not too rough, and a quarter inch to the left. We have to warn you though, Sai is wired strangely, so instead of purring, he hisses (truly--it's very strange, but it makes Sai unique)!

To deliver (well-deserved) scratches to Sai, call Rose at (505)440-7456 to set up a lovin' session!

Adoption Alert!

Greetings humans! My name is Thing. I am a handsome 16-month-old boy who is looking for a human to give me head scratches and belly rubs. Previous experience isn't necessary--I'm quite sure that I can train you!

Although I came from a very bad first home--I lived with a cat hoarder, and we weren't rescued until many of my friends had died--I'm willing to give humans another chance. I know there are some great ones out there, and I can't wait to meet them!

To meet me, call Jayne at (505)681-4713 or Rose at (505)440-7456 to set up a time to visit!

Adoption Alert!

This fuzzy bunny is Bishop. Bishop was found on the streets when he was about four months old, and was suffering from neurological issues. Bishop got the medical care he needed, but did have to have one eye removed.

Today Bishop is a feisty 7-month-old, and he's looking forward to finally being adopted. He loves chin scratches, but still needs to learn that human hands aren't toys! (We think it's important to teach our kitties that scratching and biting is for toys, not hands, so we don't encourage rough play).

Bishop needs a patient, loving home that recognizes that he's still got some learning to do (he looks big, but that's mostly fur!). He's come a long way in three months already, and we think he's going to make a great kitty companion for a very lucky person!

If you'd like to meet this little (yet fluffy) kitten, call Jayne at (505)681-4713 or Rose at (505)440-7456 to set up a play date!
