Anyone else not excited about the new movie Alpha??? I’m waiting for the sudden influx of wolf hybrids that people are going to buy in response to this movie! It’s another 101 Dalmatians except with wolves....yay.....

It's that time of year folks........hot weather!!! Dogs and hot weather do not mix! Have a care for your dog when out and about.
Never leave a dog in a car.....windows down or not, a car can heat up rapidly! Dogs die quickly as they are unable to sweat except a bit on their pads of their feet and by panting.
Do not walk your dog at the hot part of the day. Dogs sit closer to pavement than we do and will get quickly overheated from the radiant heat off the concrete. Concrete and blacktop parking lots can rapidly burn feet! Check to be sure the pavement is not too hot before walking your dog on it. Placing your palm flat on the pavement for several seconds should be sufficient to tell you if it's too hot. If you can't leave it in place without pain or you wouldn't walk barefoot on it yourself, your dog can''t either.
This goes for sand at the beach as well!
Snakes will be active in the cooler parts of the day like early morning, evening and sometimes after dark. During the heat of the day they will seek cooler, shady areas. Be mindful and watch where you are walking with your dog. Leave a snake alone and it will leave you alone.

For those who message me on this page. For some reason I'm not receiving notifications via e-mail like I used to so I might miss your message and not answer immediately. I always try to answer within the day so for now I'm trying to just check the page regularly. Waiting to hear from Facebook to find out why this is happening. I appreciate your patience!

There is another safety issue that I see often all through the year....people driving with their dogs....especially small dogs, on their laps! If you have an accident, your dog now becomes part of the airbag deployment! Sitting that close to both the steering wheel and the airbag is certain to result in serious injury, if not death. Even worse, is the occupant not wearing a seatbelt at all.....your dog now becomes the airbag for you, being crushed up against the dash or steering wheel and you launch forward. If you must have your dog in the front seat, let it sit alone with some sort of restraint such as seatbelt restraints made for dogs or a harness attached to the seatbelt. Better yet, place your dog in the backseat with restraint or at least in a backseat.

This is something that everyone needs to pay attention to now that summer is here!

As summer approaches there are some things to remind people about! People tend to travel with their dogs more often during this time of year, but this is the time when there can be more tragedy. When driving with your dog please don't let them stick their head out the window. Foreign bodies can get in ears and eyes and cause injury. NEVER leave a dog in the car!!! Even with windows down almost all the way, the car quickly becomes and oven in even low heat temps. A day that's 74 degrees outside can still lead to a car that's over 100 degrees if the windows are cracked. Dogs can't sweat....heat loss is mostly thru panting and some dissipation through feet and ears. They dehydrate rapidly and die.
The other problem is hot pavement and sand. I see people routinely walking their dogs across a parking lot to go in with them somewhere and they take no notice that the pavement is burning their dog's feet right off. If you can't lay your bare hand for at least 5 seconds on the pavement without it burning, it's too hot.....Remember that dogs sit closer to the ground than we do and all that heat radiates up onto them.....again....dogs don't sweat...they can overheat!
Do enjoy activities with your dog, but use common sense and don't do it in the heat of the day unless it's swimming or some other cooling activity!

Nemo - now Niko, was rescued from a horrible puppy mill out in the country. He was given the name Nemo by the puppy mill owner's granddaugher, so we decided to change it to Niko. WE NEED TUBE SOCKS AND RICE!!! Will you donate some?
Sounds funny but it is a critical component in our recovery room! When animals go under for surgery their body temperatures drop and we need Rice Socks to keep them worm. Just buy some mens tube socks get the kids involved and have them decorate the socks with sharpie messages of love and get well wishes and then fill socks with uncooked rice and tie the end or sew it! We heat them up in the mircowave and place around the animals when they come out of surgery!!! You can also donate just socks and rice and we will put them together! #ricesocksheal #adoptatcas #Iamcatilyn

A great rebuttal to the article that was written in the local paper in Montreal....if you don't understand French, it's basically explaining to the woman who wrote that Pitbulls are weapons and terrorists on four paws......that her information is NOT correct, that they test high for temperament and that her pitbull....obviously one that was fought, had no aggression to people or other dogs....the original article has a link below the video and it can be translated into English.

Them striped cats are pure holy, hell!

Fridays With Freddy

The other day, I was exploring a new patch of forest when I ran into a black cat with a puffy tail and two white stripes running down it’s back. It appeared to be pulling worms from the ground and eating them. I’d never seen this kind of behavior in a cat before, so I walked over to get a better look, announcing myself with a friendly bark. Bad move.

This was a high-strung cat, to say the least. It responded to my greeting by jumping a foot in the air, twisting itself around, and landing with a frightening screech. Then, it did something else I’ve never seen a cat do - it farted on me.

There’s no other way to say it. The creature pointed it’s ass right at me. His starfish flared like the muzzle of cheap handgun, and what flew out simply defies polite description. This was more than a blast of foul air - this was an explosion of tangible corruption; a hot spray of sulfuric funk that hit me squarely in the face like a moist and deadly sponge. I can’t overstate the shock at being violated in such a deliberate fashion. Gagging and sputtering, I ran back to the trail, where The Biped held his nose and told me my new aroma could “knock a buzzard off a sh*t wagon.”

An hour later, through a set of circumstances too strange to recount here, I found myself at a fancy spa in the middle of the woods. There, I was escorted to one of those Rainforest Showers, where The Biped scrubbed me down with an unholy concoction of tomato juice and Herbal Essence. And this brings me to the point of my discontent. I don’t mind the indignity of enduring a forced bath that leaves me smelling like a French whore at a vegetable stand. What I object to, is the rank stupidity of a “Rainforest Shower.” Who in the world thought this was a good idea?

From what I’ve seen of the hospitality industry, lots of high-end hotels and 5-Star Spas have installed these devices throughout. But to what end? Are these supposed to represent some new breakthrough in bathing technology? Maybe it’s just me, but I’m pretty sure The Biped agrees. Standing under a downpour is annoying. I don’t care if you’re stuck outside in the actual rain, or trapped beneath one of these godforsaken sprinkler systems. The water trickles into your eyes, along with the shampoo, the conditioner, the soap, the tomato juice, or whatever else you might use to keep your own coat soft and luxurious and not smelling of ass. Let me be as clear as I can be about this:

The Rainforest Shower is a completely dissatisfying and wildly inferior alternative to the common shower head, which last I checked, is still mounted to the WALL at a logical angle, and can still be counted upon to deliver a controllable stream of water to the intended target in a way that doesn’t feel like the precursor to a vigorous interrogation. In hindsight, I’d rather go another round with The Mysterious Farting Cat than spend another minute getting water-boarded beneath a “Rainforest Shower.”

What a crock.

This is why I foster rescues.....

The Reason (to you from all your rescue dogs)

I would've died that day if not for you.
I would've given up on life if not for your kind eyes.
I would've used my teeth in fear if not for your gentle hands.
I would have left this life believing that all humans don't care
Believing there is no such thing as fur that isn't matted
skin that isn't flea bitten
good food and enough of it
beds to sleep on
someone to love me
to show me I deserve love just because I exist.
Your kind eyes, your loving smile, your gentle hands
Your big heart saved me...

You saved me from the terror of the pound,
Soothing away the memories of my old life.
You have taught me what it means to be loved.
I have seen you do the same for other dogs like me.
I have heard you ask yourself in times of despair
Why you do it
When there is no more money, no more room, no more homes
You open your heart a little bigger, stretch the money a little tighter
Make just a little more room...to save one more like me.
I tell you with the gratitude and love that shines in my eyes
In the best way I know how
Reminding you why you go on trying.

I am the reason
The dogs before me are the reason
As are the ones who come after.
Our lives would've been wasted, our love never given
We would die if not for you

Who can help this poor girl??

Can someone please help? This is the pregnant dog that was dumped near the intersection of Ascauga Lake and Woldus roads in North Augusta. She has finally quit running from everyone and is now sitting there shaking. We don't know if she's in labor and she won't let my husband near her. Can someone come and check her out or if anyone thinks they could get her, please come help. We put together a make-shift shelter for her but she won't go in there right now for some reason. Also, if by some chance someone can gain her trust, we will need to find somewhere for her and the pups to go.

The holidays are almost upon us--Christmas trees are twinkling in all the windows, stores are gouging prices for last minute shoppers and your neighbor had his first loud, drunk fight with his in-laws. It's definitely time to bust out the holiday-themed pet videos.
