Mission: Our mission is to rescue unwanted horses who have suffered from abuse and neglect; and work with select racetracks to “repurpose” Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds. We provide each with food, medical attention and personal care until we find an appropriate and responsible placement. We also assume responsibility for the ongoing well-being for the horse after it leaves Aiken Equine Rescue.

Another awesome horse headed our way from Puerto Rico. We love working with Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare Inc.! These horses were stuck in quarantine for almost an extra week due to logistical issues at the airport. Kelley Amanda Stobie is amazing for getting it all worked out and making sure these horses had what they needed while in limbo and of course running a super organization. We are eager to welcome our new arrival Boy Cut!

Update on Chrome; he is doing much better! He eats up all of his mash food and soaked alfalfa cubes every meal! He is starting to shed off unhealthy hair to reveal and beautiful shiny copper coat. He is still battling extreme rain rot on his back that we are treating and a little stocking up in his back legs. He has a stall padded down with fluffy shavings with a fan and an outside paddock he can go out in if he chooses. He is in excellent spirits that he even wants to push you out of the way at food time!

If you are able to help, no help is too small, we can surely use it whether through feed/hay, veterinary or through financial help!

Our bay mare “Charm” is doing good. She is on alfalfa hay, platinum GI and senior grain at this time. She loves attention. We are very happy with the progress she is making so far. Our dentist and vet have looked at her as well.

If you are able to help with Charm and Chrome, through financial donation or through feed and hay we can use all of the above to help with their recovery.

They are on Triple Crown Senior grain, alfalfa hay and alfalfa cubes/pellets.

Equine Rescue of Aiken has very exciting news; we are so excited to welcome Nancy Goldmark to our Board of Directors. Unfortunately this means we are saying goodbye to Mike Farmer, as he has found a new life path that has led him to Florida. We are forever grateful for all the work he has done for the rescue and he will be greatly missed.

Ginger Fox Connell will assume the responsibility of Treasurer and Debbie Henderson-Rhodes will be Vice President/Secretary with Amy Hebert and Nancy being Board members at large.

Also, we have formed an advisory board, which includes; Susan and Jeff Runco

Dean and Patti of Reeves Thoroughbred Racing

Cary Frommer of Cary Frommer Agent

These individuals are heavily involved in the Thoroughbred and Racing Industry and strong believers in the aftercare. A wealth of knowledge comes with involvement and they will be a part of the future success of the rescue.

Below is a biography of our newest member Nancy!

Nancy Goldmark moved to Aiken In 2015 from Northern Westchester County in NY with her husband Dr. Harry Goldmark, her dogs, her donkeys and her horse. Although she received her degree and RN from Cornell University many years ago, she was working at the time as the Office Manager at an elite dressage training facility and as a Federally licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator of birds of prey. Nancy has served on several boards in NY and is currently on the board of the SPCA Albrecht Center. She says she has always been drawn to rescue (most of her animals have been rescues or owner surrenders) and has supported many rescues of foals and donkeys from feedlots, even those that she can’t actually keep with her. She feels “very honored” to be asked to be a part of Aiken Equine Rescue and their mission.

Over the last few days Chrome was looking a little dull. Yesterday morning he had laid down and was struggling to get up on his own so we made the call to have the vet come to run bloodwork and fluids on him. He is feeling much better today and more bright eyed. We also had the dentist look at his teeth yesterday as well and he has some extensive dental issues that will require work once he is healthy enough, but because of this he will be on alfalfa cubes instead of hay. If you are able to help financially or through donations; he is currently getting soaked alfalfa cubes, platinum GI and senior grain and we can use any of those! Alfalfa cubes and Triple Crown Senior grain can be purchased at any of the local feed stores Aiken Saddlery, Aiken County Farm Supply and Wagener Milling Co., LLC and platinum GI can be purchased at Performance Equine Vets

Dan Tanas found his forever home!!

This goes to show that just because you get knocked down doesn’t mean you give up! Dan came to us after he broke his knee training and his awesome connections did surgery to repair it because when you have a heart like Dans that’s just what you do. He acted like an old show pony on stall rest and NEVER got flustered...like not even a little bit. He has been the absolute best horse to have around the farm and now he gets to go do all the fun things with his new family 💙💙

Is this really 11 p.m.-1 a.m.? If so, I'm hopefully sleeping at that time. And lots of other times, too. Where is it? Can I do it in my tiny golf cart?
Looking for a donkey for a pet, would prefer to rescue. I’m not interested in breeding but would love to save a sweet one for a pet. I have owned horses and donkeys my entire life so I know what I’m doing. I lost my last boy of 24 yrs to a divorce....not doing that again!
I'm a disabled veteran and I would love to come to stay and help where I am able. Could you give me information on how to do that. Also, could I bring my granddaughter? She's 11 years old. Thanks

Just a few weeks ago, I adopted a lovely horse from Equine Rescue of Aiken. He has impeccable ground manners, is super smart and just wants to please. Today I rode him over to a neighbor’s arena and he was so good. Don’t discount the horses at this rescue; they have some real gems!
Thank you for the invitation. Intrepid International
Saw this and immediately thought of the annual sale this Saturday...I’m going to be in trouble...again. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️🐴😍
We decided to call her Lucy. She loves playing with the horse toy 😁
Thanks for your photograph/ Kindly call me. Rev. Phil Goldfedder, MD, 803-640-3507 I did leave a message. Blessings, Phil
