Been looking for the words to sum up Art of the Cowgirl this year. I went for the first time in 2020 and fell off my horse in the fence work of the World's Greatest Horsewoman. They played Cowgirls Don't Cry as I led my mare out. I was definitely crying. This year was my fourth year at the event. I showed my Stuart Ranch mare, we both stayed shiny side up and wound up in the top 25. I'm coming for the finals one day, but the best thing about falling off your first year is that there's nowhere to go but up.
The real highlight, though, was the horse sale. My good mare, a 2018 Bet Hesa Cat out of Seven S Indian Maid, was the high selling mare and Reserve High Seller in the Elite Horse Sale. She sold to a program that gave me such a great compliment: "thank you for making a badass mare that's trained to do all the things, but still retains her sense of self." That sums up what I'm trying to do. Thanks for seeing my vision, Shay Doll and Dana Lovell. Can't wait to see you both at the cowhorse shows!
My Select Prospect Sale consignment, Sonny, topped his section of the sale. His new owner was already roping on him the morning after the sale, so I'd call that a perfect fit. Sonny also has the honor (and my eternal gratitude) of winning me my very first Art of the Cowgirl buckle. It won't be my last one, but it'll always be really special.
Thank you to everyone who's helped get me here. In particular, Ryan Thomas for believing in my program long before I even believed I had a program.
