We've seen some posts showing Holland Lops having their coats blown due to molting. We were taught by a fellow HL breeder whom has experience with French Angoras and JW the right way to do it. Due to comments for concern for the rabbits, let's review this.
FANCY is HL fuzzy. So she is something between a HL/wool coat. For demonstrating she's a good candidate. Lowest settings for air and heat. The round nozzle is for gentle grooming, unlike the one usually used for wool breeds. You see FANCY doesn't need someone to hold her, cover her face or keep her from being blown away ๐
it still does a wonderful job, her posed pictures are on a previous post.
1st, no rabbit should have the blower aimed at their face and ears, damage could be done, and it's just not enjoyed by the rabbits. As shown, we can blow out her coat without blowing air in her face.
2nd, use LOWEST speed and the heat settings. HL do not require the intensity that a wool breed does to clean the coats. Even on a fuzzy, she doesn't require the intensity of a true wool breed, so think about the HL and how sensitive they are.
3rd, there's a difference between nozzles, any groomer can tell you. Better yet, read about the intended use for each different one.
People should educate themselves not just follow posts and take for granted what they see on Facebook is the best way to do things. Winning shows doesn't automatically equal to extensive knowledge in rabbit care and best interest for the rabbits. We've seen others asking/telling people what to do about lots of situations and while the intentions are good, the information they share actually harms or kills the rabbits. Above all else, quality of life and care, basic husbandry practices should be the a breeders 1st priority. Sadly, we don't see that often.
