Welcome Pixie to Humphrey House πŸ’—

We have a rare sighting at Humphrey House.
A small poopy... I mean, a puppy 🀣

As you may know, my heart is with the senior dogs in need. But when the transport shows up with a single tiny puppy that needs rescue, I caved.

Pixie is a 7 week old little girl that currently weighs 2 lbs. Although we expect her to be a small breed, I have sent a DNA sample so we can confirm her breed. Chihuahua? JRT? Pitbull??? It's anyone's guess. Either way, she is totally precious.

Pixie is currently being quarantined, then has a vet visit next week. She will be available for adoption once cleared by our vet.

She is to young to be spayed, so she will be adopted out with a spay contract. Her adoption fee will be 400, then her adopter will be reimbursed 200 with proof of spay. I will suggest low-cost spay options, often around 160 but her adopter is welcome to use their own vet.

Pixie would benefit from another small dog to show her how to be a good girl. Puppies are a lot of work! They πŸ’© everywhere, they chew on things & they demand a lot of attention. If you're up for the challenge, send us a message.

Humphrey House is located in Abingdon, in Harford County Maryland. Thank you!

Bella had her drain tubes removed today from the double mastectomy that she had last week πŸŽ‰

She was a little confused as we walked into the vets office since I told her we were going out for a Pup cup. Sorry Bella. I made it up to her by stopping at Chick-fil-A afterwards. She was nice enough to bring home chicken nuggies for everyone πŸ’—

Bella is a super sweet 13 yr old shih-tzu that weighs 9 lbs. She has been an amazing lap dog & has been great with the other small dogs & cat in our home. She will be a wonderful companion for one lucky adopter.

Although we are awaiting her biopsy results, the assumption is that her tumors were cancerous. The biopsy will mainly tell us if the surgeon removed the tumor with good margins (or if a little was left behind) We do know from her X-rays that nothing has metastisized to any of her organs.

Even if there's a trace of the tumor remaining, I would never put an animal of her age through horribly painful chemo or radiation treatment. This precious little girl simply needs a loving home to live out her golden years πŸ’— There's nothing better than the love of a senior pet!

Bella is being fostered in Harford County Maryland. Please call or send us a message to be this girls guardian angel πŸ˜‡ Thank you!

Spaying Saves Lives: Meet Bella, a Brave Senior Shih-tzu Seeking Her Forever Home πŸ’—

Today, we want to talk about something incredibly important for our furry friends: Spaying.

Beyond preventing unwanted litters, spaying offers significant health benefits, especially in preventing mammary cancer, a common and often aggressive disease in unspayed female dogs.

We're seeing the direct impact of this right now with our sweet Bella, a resilient 13-year-old, 9 lb girl who underwent a double mastectomy yesterday to remove mammary tumors. Bella is a shining example of strength; she's recovering remarkably well from her surgery and her spirits are high!

While we don't know Bella's full history, her journey underscores the critical importance of early spaying. Spaying significantly reduces the risk of mammary cancer, especially if done before a dog's first heat cycle. For older, unspayed females, the risk climbs considerably.

Despite everything she's been through, Bella is full of love and ready to enjoy her golden years in a forever home. She's a gentle soul who deserves all the comfort and affection the world has to offer. If you're looking to open your heart and home to a truly special senior dog, please consider adopting Bella. She's proof that even after facing tough battles, there's so much life and love to give.

As always, THANK YOU Dr Vance & the team at Homeward Bound Vet for taking such good care of our sweet girl. And to Linda for her generous donation that has covered Bella's vet care πŸ’— ($2,800 so far)

Please share Bella's story! Let's find this brave girl the loving home she deserves, and remind everyone of the life-saving power of spaying.

Please keep Bella in your thoughts & prayers today as she undergoes her major surgery πŸ™

Sweet Bella is having a full double mastectomy to remove a large mammary tumor, along with several small lumps. She will also be spayed during the procedure.

At 13 years old, she will have a rough recovery, but removing the tumors now should give her an extended life to be spoiled in a loving home.

I know she is in the best hands at Homeward Bound Vet today πŸ’— Stay tuned for updates.

Adoption pending πŸŽ‰

We received the horomone test results for Strax.
The test was negative for any hormones, meaning she is already spayed! She is now ready for a new home.

Strax is very nervous meeting new people but warms up quickly to be a sweet playful girl. She loves to play with toys & enjoys a nice cuddle. She will be an amazing companion once she feels safe. She has done well with the other dogs in rescue.

Strax is estimated to be 4 yrs old & weighs 11 lbs. She is being fostered in Harford County Maryland. Please send us a message for more information or to arrange a meeting. Thank you

Strax: Adoption pending πŸŽ‰

Strax had her vet visit today. They were unable to see any spay scar, so we opted to have a horomone test done. We should have the test results in about a week. (She is spayed!)

If it turns out that she is spayed, then she is ready for a new home. If not, she will have spay surgery before her adoption.

Strax is estimated to be 4 years old & weighs 11 lbs. We believe she is a chi/JRT mix. She has been a very sweet, smart girl but is nervous meeting new people. She trembles in fear & may ti**le a little when picked up until she feels safe. She is definitely a home-body & isn't one to enjoy traveling. She has been great with the other dogs in rescue.

If you can give this pretty girl the loving home that she deserves, please send us a message. Humphrey House is located in Harford county Maryland. We meet adopters by appointment only. Thank you

Available for adoption: Pup Pup

Pup Pup is a 6 yr old, chi/JRT mix that weighs 10 lbs. He had been adopted from Humphrey House 3 years ago but was recently found abandoned in Baltimore. I was not able to reach his previous adopter for any information.

Pup Pup will need a patient adopter to go slow and help him feel safe. Once he adjusts, he is a happy, energetic boy that loves to play fetch. He is not a fan of male dogs but has done well with the female dogs in rescue. He also did well meeting our cat. No kids, they make him nervous. He can be crated if children visit your home.

Pup Pup is neutered, microchipped & current on vaccines. He is being fostered in Harford county Maryland. Send us a message for more information or to arrange a meeting. Thank you

Available for adoption: Jonah

Jonah has been settling in nicely. He is a Maltese/Bichon mix that will be 9 years old in August. He currently weighs 14 pounds.

Jonah was surrendered due to his owner moving into assisted living. She could only bring one pet, so Jonah was the one surrendered.

Jonah is sweet but can be skittish initially. He will need a patient home to go slow as he adjusts to a new life. He has done well with the other dogs & cat in rescue. He loves going on walks & exploring. He has some separation anxiety, so he would love to have a home with someone that is retired or works from home.

Jonah is neutered, microchipped & current on vaccines. He will require regular grooming.

Jonah is being fostered in Harford county Maryland. Send us a message for more information or to arrange a meeting. Thank you

Welcome Jonah to Humphrey House πŸ’—

Jonah was happily living with his owner & furry companion when his owner had to move to an assisted living facility. The facility does allow pets. ONE pet ☹️ Jonah's mom had to make the heart wrenching choice of which fur-baby to keep & which one had to be surrendered. A horrible choice that no one should ever have to make.

Jonah is a male Maltese/Bichon that weighs 14 lbs. He will be 9 years old in August. He hopes to have a huge Birthday party to celebrate his new life in a new home πŸŽ‰

Jonah has done well meeting the other small dogs & cat in rescue. He just isn't a fan of hyper dogs jumping on him. He cries when left alone, so someone that is retired or home often would be ideal.

Jonah is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped & heartworm negative. He will require regular grooming.

Humphrey House is located in Harford County Maryland. Send us a message for more information or to arrange a meeting. Thank you

Welcome Strax to Humphrey House πŸ’—

Strax arrived last week with Maggie from Texas. She is a little nervous, so I let her settle in some before posting.

Strax is a mystery. She was found as a stray in Houston. I was shocked to find out that she was microchipped in 2021. (So it wasn't from her newer rescuer) I reached out to her registered owner but have not heard back ☹️

Her chipped name is Bella. Although she has been nervous, when I called her "Bella" she got super excited, jumping & wagging her tail. She knows some commands, like sit, paw & will stand on her hind legs for treats. She is a really smart girl.

I can tell she was well cared for... At some point πŸ₯Ή Unfortunately, her time on the streets of Houston has made her see the world differently. She is scared & nervous meeting new people. She trembles in fear & may ti**le a little when picked up. This sweet girl will need a patient home to help her feel safe & loved again.

Strax (we already have a foster named Bella & a resident chi named Bell, so we are sticking with Strax) is vaccinated, chipped & heartworm negative. She even received a heartworm preventative that lasts for 6 months. Although the vet in Houston thinks Strax is spayed, I don't have any confirmation on that. I will be taking her to our vet to get their opinion. If they don't feel she is spayed, we will have that done before adoption.

Strax is around 4 years old and weighs 11 lbs. She is a chi-terrier mix (rat, fox or JRT. We're not really sure) She is being fostered in Abingdon Maryland. Stay tuned for updates on this sweet girls progress. Thank you!
