Recall our fly strike boy from last week? He is doing well other than being mad at his own legs for kicking him. He will join others his age in about another week but til then entertaining himself.

What a difference a little time can make. This poor girl came in yesterday after be caught by a dog. This first picture shows a squirrel in shock, literally was able to fully examine her with no resistance or movement. On a better note, not able to do such this morning as she is up running around her cage talking to me in a not so nice squirrel tone.

Good morning everyone!! Happy Tuesday!

Great News to Report on Skullye 🐺 (our coyote caught in the snare) He is very active this morning and eating solids. We are still providing soft nutrition with supplements, protein, and vitamins to help him heal and recover from the torture he endured over at least two weeks. He is free of maggots, he has been treated with long acting parasitic meds and will receive his first set of vaccinations this week.

What is a snare?

Our coyote pup seems to be stable and making good progress. His appetite is back and he started eating today. Let’s talk snares (and all inhumane traps- leg holds, etc)

Pictured below is the snare we cut off the coyote, it was imbedded in his neck and came close to cutting off airway. He had a large wound around his neck and it was full of maggots. He managed to break free from the snare and after weeks trying to survive he managed to go to a kind home for help. He wouldn’t have survived much longer.. maybe a few more days at most.

Snares work by getting tighter the more the animal fights; but does not loosen. They are set at head level and before the animal figures it out, it is too late. Skullye was struggling to breathe, he was skinny, starved, anemic and full of parasites including the maggots eating him from the inside out. It would be a slow painful death over a couple of weeks.

How is this humane? How many more wild animals have to suffer by these barbaric devices before change is made? The animal suffers greatly. We must come together and change the laws before more innocent lives suffer!

We must change how we treat predators. We need them! 🐺
