📢 Important Legislative Change for Foreigners and Businesses in Slovakia

The Ministry of the Interior of the Republic has introduced an amendment to the Foreigners' Residence Act, bringing significant improvements for foreign workers, refugees, and businesses:

🔹 Digitalization of Residence Processes – Upcoming digital services will simplify communication and expedite application processing. Less bureaucracy, more transparency, and reduced stress for foreigners.
🔹 ID Cards for Ukrainian Refugees – These will replace paper documents and meet European standards. A safer solution that will facilitate residence verification in Slovakia and across the EU.
🔹 Reduced Bureaucracy for Businesses – Instead of submitting three months of bank statements, companies will only need to provide a balance confirmation.

We believe this is a significant step in the right direction. The current situation has become unsustainable and stressful for foreigners coming to Slovakia. Complicated processes, limited appointment availability, and often uncooperative police officers worsen the experience for those applying for temporary and permanent residence (appointments for which have long been unavailable) and visas. This also damages the country’s reputation in the eyes of newcomers.

🔆 The changes are expected to come into effect on December 15, 2024. We sincerely hope they will help improve the situation we have been struggling with for months.

🛑 Important Notice for Foreign Workers in Slovakia

A recent inspection by the Foreign Police Department in Žilina, in cooperation with the Criminal Police and the Labor Inspectorate, revealed serious violations concerning the employment of foreign nationals. The inspection at the former Makov border crossing checked seven Nepalese nationals who had presented Slovak national visas for employment in the engineering sector. However, it was discovered that they were performing different tasks—specifically, packing and shipping work unrelated to their declared position.
As a result, they were administratively expelled and issued a three-year entry ban into Slovakia.

👉 Important facts about national visas:
National visas for the industrial sector are strictly tied to a specific job position and a designated company.

⚠️ Warning:
Dear foreign workers, do not be deceived! If someone tells you that you can work for a different company or in a different position, it is false. You will bear the consequences and penalties.

🚨 Rumors are circulating about improper practices. Some companies allegedly claim that jobs are unavailable upon workers' arrival. Remember: If you want to apply for a temporary residence permit for employment, it must be with the same company for which you obtained the visa. The Foreign Police will not accept an application if it is not for the original company.

🔔 Stay cautious and well-informed!

Dear friends,

"Experience has shown us that plans for savings are often derailed by unforeseen complications."

Recently, we've encountered cases where foreigners in Slovakia, pursuing various residence permits (renewals, initial applications for employment, business, family reunification, permanent residence, etc.), have had their processes interrupted by the foreign police for various reasons. This interruption not only causes stress and complications for them and their families but also leads to increased costs.

Cases that initially seem straightforward can quickly become complex when interrupted by the foreign police due to reasons such as incomplete documents, complicated situations, or inadequate responses to police inquiries.

We highly recommend consulting with an immigration expert before proceeding with your application. This step can help save you money, time, and stress. Without proper guidance, there is a risk that the foreign police may not grant or renew your residence permit.

We wish you the best of luck.
