Dear FAM.

TICK-ALERT!!!!

The tick eggs and female ticks that are gravid (or preggy) love the hot and humid weather in Singapore now.

You only need one gravid female tick - she can lay >1000 eggs at one go.

We have also dealt with cases where the HDB unit had walls covered with moving/ crawling full-stop sized baby ticks.

We have also consulted owners who could not take a cab with their infested dogs to our clinic and had to walk from Tampines to Bedok Reservoir because both the human pet owners and the dogs were covered in ticks.

These ticks become resistant because monthly application protocols for tick prevention products (e.g fipronil, selamectin, imidacloprid, etc etc blah blah blah) were reduced to once every 3 months or ad hoc by human custodians.

Don't change the medical protocols.

Don't reach for stronger and stronger medication because the stronger meds can affect the dogs with MDR1 gene, those that are too young, too old, with undiscovered underlying diseases and have allergies to the medication or carrier components/other additives of the medication.

And YES. We have also dealt with tick infestation on cats.

20 cases of urinary tract infection/ inflammation of various stages over 14 days.

Dear FAM, we have also attended to quite a few motor vehicle related deaths and injuries of community cats in our area.

The presented injuries and trauma patterns sustained can be very specific and recognisable.

We are very griefed by the passing of the cats.

We hope that the general public will become more mindful and vigilant regarding Singapore's road traffic rules and regulations to ensure better safety.

Bring along a 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝘇𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 (1.5L) to rehydrate your pets throughout the outdoor event.

𝗗𝗲𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 can occur during both rainy and dry days in Singapore.

𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘆𝗰𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 (those with shortened muzzle/skulls, resulting in a flattened or short nose) are more prone to overheating and heatstroke in hot weather due to their limited ability to pant effectively.

So 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 make them run or go for walks in hot and humid weather.

Daily maintenance water intake in hot , sunny Singapore should be 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟴𝟬𝗺𝗹/𝗸𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 /𝗱𝗮𝘆 in divided portions.

We snooped around the supermarket and found a few variations of toothbrushes that are very comfortable to use.
They clean well without hurting the gums (we tried).

We made treats with real human-grade chicken meat for our aging monster-children to control their muscle-fat ratio balance and gain.
Not difficult.

Better tasting (my 19 yo extremely fussy cat gave her thumbs up and we tasted it too).
