Meet Kento the gentle giant! β¨π
He came in for a skin check after his owners noticed he had been feeling itchy over the past few weeks. He was biting around his elbows and hocks, and they spotted scabs and small red bumps on his tummy and scrotal area.
On examination, we found:
π Mild irritation around the inguinal and scrotal area
π Scaling and scabbing on skin
The rest of his physical exam was normal, which is always reassuring π
β¨ Whatβs going on?
Skin issues like Kentoβs are commonly linked to allergies (environmental, food, or flea-related), contact irritation, or secondary bacterial/yeast infections. These conditions can cause itchiness, redness, scabs, and recurrent flare-ups if not addressed early.
π©Ί Plan:
We started topical treatment to soothe the skin and discussed regular cleaning of contact areas to reduce irritation. Monitoring response is key β if not improving, further diagnostics (e.g. cytology, allergy investigation) may be needed.
π Skin tips for pet parents:
β’ Donβt ignore persistent itching
β’ Check hidden areas (tummy, armpits, groin, paws)
β’ Early treatment prevents chronic skin disease
β’ Keep bedding and contact surfaces clean
If your pet is licking, biting, or scratching more than usual, itβs worth a check! Skin problems are one of the most common reasons pets visit the vet and early care makes all the difference!! πΎ
