A steady, trusted caregiver can help reduce stress in unfamiliar or challenging situations. This is part of what animal behaviour describes as 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨, used alongside low-stress handling and supportive environments.

This is Juno, in her senior years, here for her first professional grooming session.

She has always been cared for at home, and recent age- and health-related changes to her coat meant extra support was needed this time.

Having her guardian close helped her feel safer and cope better through something new 🌿

2025. We’ve been quieter here this year. Still here, just tending to the work that happens beyond the feed 🔭

Much of our time went into refining care on intention. Continuing to deepen how we use behavioural principles to guide pacing, and shaping each session with guardians around what their feline pals could handle on that day.

Along the way, we got to celebrate many small, meaningful wins 🎉 Cats who once only tolerated grooming began to feel more at ease over time with patience, attunement, and guardians who stayed the course with us 🥹🤝🏼

Refining care also meant making some hard decisions behind the scenes, including necessary team changes, so care stays fear-free and continues to grow in service of the cats in our care ✊🏼

To everyone who’s still here, thank you for believing in care that puts cats first, and for choosing to move with us at a pace that allows grooming care to honour our feline friends 🐈‍⬛💕

Grateful to be carrying this work into the year ahead with you 🙂⏩

An open and consistent communication between guardians and groomers is a beautiful two-way thing!

Small actions like informing your groomer that your cat is previously traumatised with showering, or is afraid of nail clipping can allow them to introduce the process in a way that’s acceptable by your cat.

Or maybe your cat has recently gotten injured, is old or has weak legs. Communicating can allow extra care to be in place to avoid adding stress to their symptoms.

And on the groomer’s part, being truthful about how sessions went keeps you in the know your cat’s progress and allows you to plan the best next steps.

All these little guardian-groomer communication helps to improve the care and experience of your time here, and sets the tone for an approach that best supports your furry friend’s needs ✨

From picking cat-specific grooming tools to addressing grooming anxieties, we know navigating the sea of grooming care information (and misinformation) can sometimes be a tad overwhelming 🌪

to a time before social distancing and group size limit when our community cat care seminar was a thing, and seeing fellow cat parents leaving the session empowered with clarity is definitely our thing 🐈✨

“𝘔𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘺!” “𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘧𝘦𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘵!”

It’s not uncommon to hear these when more often than not, our feline friends are trying to tell us in cat language that they feel like they’re in danger and are trying to protect themselves from it. ✊🏼

Knowing this, there really are no “bad” cats. Instead, we believe 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝘁 (yes that’s the reason for our name ✨) and how they react has so much to do with their surroundings and how human caregivers interact with them.

And with that, always choose to 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆, and 𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁.

It's been a humbling and fulfilling year 😺

When we first started Bubbly Petz and now Hey Good Cat, low-stress and humane grooming has been the core of our existence. To us, grooming is as much about meeting the psychological needs of our feline friends as it is about giving them a clean, healthy bath. No-doubt, our greatest joy this year was witnessing otherwise fearful cats transforming into their confident selves towards grooming.. and you, the cat's hooman played a huge part in making this happen:

⁃ the times that you're on board with the plans to not push past your cat's stress threshold just to get a certain grooming procedures done — you believed in helping your cats build a sustainable relationship with grooming

⁃ the times you didn't hesitate at all to be in a fur-filled room when your presence is needed as a source of comfort for your furry buddy
. and for believing in what we do and trusting us with your furry best friends ☺️💖

Learning to better care for our furry friends is always an ongoing process, and as a team we're constantly working on refining and advancing our approach.
