🧠 When Ageing Hits Differently: Pet Dementia Is Real

We often chalk up odd behaviour in senior pets to “just old age” — but it could be something more serious.

A recent The Straits Times piece highlights how pet dementia (cognitive dysfunction syndrome) is an under-recognised but surprisingly common condition, affecting up to 70% of older dogs and a significant number of senior cats.

What’s worrying? Many pawrents miss the signs — disorientation, anxiety, sleep changes — assuming nothing can be done. But early intervention can actually slow progression and improve quality of life.

💭 Personal take:
This hits close — as our pets live longer, we’re not just dealing with “more years”, but more complex care. Awareness is everything. The earlier we recognise the signs, the more we can show up for them in their most vulnerable stage.

Early intervention is key to prevention and treating this debilitating condition. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read more at straitstimes.com.
