Woke up on day 2 of National Volunteers’ Week to Sophie and Alfie’s post about es**rting junior para riders 🥰🫶🏽💪🏽

Of all my volunteering roles, this is by far my favourite - junior para es**rt for my best friend and future race partner, Alfie. ❤️

Sophie captured it perfectly in her poster, highlighting just how important es**rts and chaperones are for young riders coming through our sport. We aren’t just there to lead ponies around; we’re there to build confidence, provide support, encourage independence and help create positive experiences that keep young riders loving endurance.

It’s a role that Domino absolutely loved too. He took his responsibilities very seriously and taught so many young riders the ropes. Now Isar is excelling in the role, although I suspect the power may have gone slightly to her head... 🤣

One of the best parts is seeing the next generation start their endurance journey. Watching Marnie and Pebbles discover the sport together, and being able to share those experiences thanks to Endurance GB and the fantastic 5km rides, is incredibly special.

Volunteers are the backbone of our sport, and I’m very grateful to play a small part in helping young riders develop their confidence, skills and love for endurance riding. 🐴💙

It’s sunny, it’s the weekend and it’s so empty without you 🥺💔

Domino should be here soaking up the sunshine, ears pricked, ready for another adventure, another training ride, another day of making memories. It’s strange how one horse can leave such a huge silence behind. He wasn’t just part of the team, he was part of me. I miss him so much. 💔

A year ago, in May 2025, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I’d been quietly struggling with all the classic symptoms without knowing what was going on. In May 2025 I had my routine blood tests, and the GP decided to run my HbA1c bloods. They came back at 135 and I had DKA.

My GP called straight away but being training-focused (and a crazy horse lady!), I decided to do the planned beach canter training I was on my way to with my friend Nicky on Dom and me on Macaroni. I told the GP I was out of area and would come in first thing next morning 🫣

That ride didn’t quite go to plan. I blacked out on Loni, came round, and made the decision to go straight to the doctors instead. It turned out that was the right call, because I was admitted to the resus ward at Blackpool Hospital and officially diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Fast forward one year, and I have achieved so much more than I ever thought I could have done.

Honestly, I didn’t know what T1D would mean for my riding, travelling, training… or life in general.

The year has included international races, long training miles, sleeping in airports, FEI vet gates, all the highs and lows (literally), and a huge amount of trial and error.

Somewhere in all of that there have also been around 2,000 insulin injections, 500 finger pricks, infections fought off, eyesight restored, countless 3am alarms, and more ice creams avoided than I’d like to admit.

But we are still here chasing finish lines, still aiming high, still drinking and dancing like the true northerner I am, and understanding my own body a little better than before.

There have definitely been hard days. Days where my glucose made no sense, where I’ve ridden hypo, hyper, exhausted or frustrated. But endurance riders are pretty good at digging deep, adapting, and carrying on anyway.

Huge thank you to everyone who’s supported me this past year; family, friends, owners, fellow riders, and everyone who’s messaged me about their own diabetes journey too. It’s meant more than you know.

The biggest thank you has to go to our NHS, my CGM and my insulin, with you I am alive 💙

Cheshire Frolic ride! Sunshine, smiles, brilliant horses and even better company ☀️🐴

We had an amazing time with Alfie and Pebbles from AJE, plus Shez and Flo out enjoying the miles together. Flo was the best big girl all day, and Isa definitely took her lead mare duties very seriously: ears pricked and marching at the front like she owned the place!

The Cheshire Frolic is always such a fun and friendly Endurance GB ride, with lovely routes, great atmosphere and plenty of opportunities for riders of all levels to enjoy the Cheshire countryside.

Isa absolutely powered round the 34km, cruising along happily the whole way and finishing with an incredible 39 HR in the sunshine 🌞💪

IndiePics were there to document our day with their snaps, amazing as always 📸 🤩

Thank you a great day and thank you all the volunteers 🤩
A proper happy horses, happy riders kind of day ❤️
