Wir, Ute Gerhardt, Pädagogin und Reitlehrerin, und Walter Bofenschen, Stadtplaner, leben seit 1990 in dieser ursprünglichen Gegend an der Südwestküste Portugals, mitten im Naturpark Costa Vicentina. Alle, die in intakter Natur direkt am Meer Erholung suchen oder die traumhafte Dünenlandschaft zu Pferd entdecken wollen, laden wir ein, ihren Urlaub bei uns zu verbringen.

From June 28th to July 4th, Sophie Fleur from is bringing her family (and her incredible culinary talent!) back to Monte Meu. It’s going to be a week dedicated to enjoying food, family connection, and getting creative in the veg & spice kitchen.

Slowly things are coming together. Some of our carefully selected and precious items are shown in our new breakfast room. We’re calling it our breakfast barn. ‘The old man’ was made by Sara for her art exam some years ago. Together with a second hand Portuguese chair (because we love 2nd hand shopping) and a modern work of art by Tucurinca we’re creating a mix of all things we love. See you at the barn.

Hello everyone :-)
for those who don’t know us yet, we thought of putting some faces to our names. Sara is born and raised in the village of Cavaleiro. Her mom, Diana, moved 30 something years ago from the States to Portugal and never left when she met Antonio. Otti first arrived in Cavaleiro in 2022 and fell in love with the Monte and came back each year after. Over the years, we realised we both love the same thing: outdoor life, growing our own food, animals, hosting dinners and being creative. So why not do all of those things together? Supported by our husbands and families, we want to take care of this Monte, the land that it’s on and all that daily life brings. Let’s do what sparks joy.

With new energy and vision, we are starting a new chapter and calling it

Monte Meu.​

Surrounded by the beauty of our Monte, we are focussing on regenerative homesteading; with a touch of floral, a turn toward the arts, and the energy of events.

Our place reflects us and stays true to the intentional, low-impact lifestyle of the Alentejo.​

Working the land, caring for our animals, sharing our meals, and living with the tides and the seasons, generates the rhythm of Monte Meu.

Sunsets are proof that no matter what happens, every day can end beautifully. Specially here 🥰

Each sunset and sunrise is unique and different from the previous one. It is due to the movement of the sun across the sky throughout the year, cyclones and anticyclones replacing each other, the presence of cold and warm fronts, and an infinite number of cloud forms.

We’re blessed in this unique location where we can daily appreciate all these variety of colours and shades.
