ACF Animal Rescue The first and largest animal rescue service and sanctuary for abused and neglected animals in Karachi.

With Outreach and educational programs to help create a more compassionate society. ACF (AYESHA CHUNDRIGAR FOUNDATION)

The Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation, affectionately known as "ACF," was established in 2013 as a Non-Profit Organization and stands as a beacon of hope for animals in Pakistan. Before ACF came into existence, there was little awareness or support for animals in distress or, in fact,

animals in general, across Pakistan. ACF has emerged as a pioneering force in the realm of animal welfare in Pakistan. It tirelessly operates through various programs, community engagement efforts, and awareness campaigns, all with the aim of fostering compassion within society and advocating for the importance of robust animal rights laws. At ACF, we firmly believe in a holistic approach that considers the well-being of animals, humans, and the environment in unison. In our journey, we've come to realize that helping animals goes hand in hand with empowering the people who care for them and creating safe, healthy environments for all. ACF relies solely on donations and has, from its very inception, been dedicated to offering care and sanctuary to stray, abandoned, and abused animals—those often forgotten, battered, or neglected. We provide these services without charge, services that should ideally be provided by the state and its institutions. Over the past decade, ACF has served as a haven for over thirty five thousand (35,000) stray and abused animals through our active rescue service and helpline. Our unwavering commitment has not gone unnoticed, earning us numerous accolades, both nationally and internationally. Among these is the prestigious Pride of Pakistan award at the Pakistan Day Award Forces parade in 2021, as well as the Recognition of Exceptional Service award by Pakistan Rangers, Sindh. ACF's impact has extended beyond borders, reshaping Pakistan's image on the global stage. We proudly received the first-place award in the "Tell Her Story competition, a joint effort by the Institute for South Asia Studies at UC Berkeley and Facebook. ACF has initiated several impactful programs since its inception. Notable among them is our mass vaccination campaign for stray dogs, coupled with a TNVR (trap, neuter, vaccinate, and release) program aimed at humanely controlling the street dog population. In addition, our commitment extends to equine welfare, as our dedicated team provides free medical care, food, water, to labor donkeys, while providing immersive experiences such as educational outreach and self-care sessions to donkey owners. We also distribute humane soft harnesses and sturdy carts to deserving donkey owners. This initiative not only reduces animal abuse but also empowers families by enhancing their livelihoods. We have introduced our own version of the Universal Basic Income model as an offshoot to our donkey camps where we provide financial support as well as the tools and skills required for guidance to aid in improving lives. All of our programs are designed to help animals in a country where there are no animal welfare rights and where animals are directly connected to humans such as donkey carts that are still one of the main modes of transport in the commercial sector of Pakistan. Without helping the human we are not able to reach the animal, hence we go into great depth in the way we work to bring about actual long-lasting change. At ACF, we continue to strive for a world where animals are treated with kindness and respect, and we invite you to join us in this noble endeavor. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

This one is a deep one for me.

Everyone thought Penny was a monster, but nine months later, you are seeing the loveliest transformation of this beautiful girl at our new sanctuary ✨

What I do has never been just about animal rescue. It is also about trying to change the culture and mindset towards animals in Pakistan, especially dogs. There is such a deep built in hatred and fear towards them, and honestly, I still cannot understand how people fail to see what is really in front of them.

People thought Penny was dangerous because she barked at anyone who came near her. But when I heard her bark, all I could hear was the fear of a homeless mother trying to protect her babies from getting hurt. I did not see a monster, I saw fear, exhaustion and survival 💔

When my team and I are out on the streets saving animals, it is not only about rescue. It’s also about showing people that lives they were taught to see as worthless actually deserve all the effort, compassion and dignity that we give them.

The sanctuary I am building is a quiet act of defiance against the cruelty animals face every single day. We are trying to create a place where they can finally exist in safety and peace, a world where they no longer have to live in fear.

Please support Penny and the sanctuary that cares for her, and thousands more like her, as we slowly bring this dream to life over the next couple of months.

The story of Purple starts off as incredibly sad, but by the end, it is going to leave you smiling 💔♥️

The transformation of Purple in less than 24 hours ✨

When our team first met Purple, he was growling, using his little barks as a way to protect his already exhausted, malnourished, paralyzed body, covered in ticks and painful knots. His eyes were filled with so much fear that he would not let anyone come near him 😣

Slowly, Aakash gained his trust and gently picked him up and placed him in the rescue van, but Purple still looked so unsure about what fate had in store for him.

When he first reached our shelter, he did not even look at food or water. His eyes just screamed, “you have no idea what I have been through.”

But in less than 24 hours, Purple’s true personality emerged, and it turned out he is the sweetest, happiest little boy 🥹

Purple is an elderly dog, probably around 9 to 10 years old. His nails are severely overgrown, and right now he is not letting us cut them, which is completely okay. We will do it when he is ready. You can tell just how neglected he was simply by looking at his nails 😔

His hind legs are paralyzed and his pelvic area is protruding. The purple medicine you see on his body is actually a wound healing medicine commonly used in Pakistan, which the person who saved him had tried to apply to help him.

This transition in less than 24 hours has left all of us emotional. We are just so happy Purple finally got to feel safe, loved, and simply be a little dog in the short time he has been with us so far 🙏🏼

We will keep you updated on Purple’s journey 💜

This is the best part of my day, so much so that sometimes I feel almost selfish for loving it this much.

Little Petey came in so worried, sitting quietly in the corner with his huge eyes, not knowing what was about to happen to him. I picked him up for one minute and suddenly he became the silliest little boy.

In between overseeing the construction of our new sanctuary and running back to our old shelter, where Petey is right now, to care for new rescues, moments like these make every struggle worth it.

Because this feeling is better than money, better than power, better than anything material. There is a kind of fulfillment that only comes from being there for an animal when they need someone the most.

So when people ask me, “I don’t know how you do it,” I think this video is the answer to that question.

Note: Petey is a new rescue currently staying with us at the shelter. He has a bad tummy, is still very weak and thin, and is under treatment right now. If you would like to help keep Petey this silly, sweet, and safe, please inbox us “Petey” to sponsor his care 🤍

Because Marshall the donkey turns out to be unbelievably full of life 💪🏻✨

The moment he finally got food, water, safety, and relief from pain, his eyes changed completely.

Donkeys in Pakistan live such brutally hard lives that something as simple as rest, kindness, clean water, or even an apple can feel like luxury ✨

So seeing Marshall react so beautifully to finally feeling safe makes us want to at least give him the chance to experience some good life ❤️

Marshall was standing abandoned on a main road for at least 2 weeks with a hoof hanging off the bone, severe anemia, dehydration, and infection.

Right now, Marshall is alert, responsive, eating properly, drinking water, mobile, and doing okay 🙏🏻

We understand the concerns people might have about a donkey surviving on three legs, especially because front-leg weight distribution in equines can be extremely difficult and place extra pressure on the remaining limbs.

But Marshall has only been with us for a few days after weeks of horrific suffering, and right now he is showing us very clearly that he wants to live ❤️

So for now, we simply want to give him that chance and continue monitoring his comfort, mobility, healing, and overall quality of life day by day 🙏🏻

Marshall is currently safe at our sanctuary and will remain with us permanently 🏡♥️

This is Skye 🩵

In my arms is a cat who once had a home, and then was abandoned on the streets.

Look at his eyes, that soft sky-blue color, you will not believe the disbelief in them. When you watch this video, you’ll see it. He’s looking around at all these homes, and in his pure, beautiful mind it feels like heaven.

He doesn’t even know what to choose, he’s so overwhelmed, so spoiled for choice, he just stands there taking it all in.

And that is exactly what I always wanted 🙏🏻

For the homeless animals I have been rescuing for the last 13 years, the ones who fight for survival every single day on the streets, where finding space under a car, in a garbage dump, or inside an empty gutter is considered a privilege 💔

So I wanted to create the exact opposite of that life at our new sanctuary, and I think we’ve done it 💪🏻✨

I’ve taken it a step further and made it completely multifunctional and purposeful, creating spaces for every kind of rescue I have seen over the years:

Healing & recovery spaces for:
🆘 New rescues
❤️‍🩹 Abandoned pets
🐾 Poisoned & abused cats protecting their kittens
♿ Special needs cats (blind, deaf, paralyzed)
🏥 Injured, unwell cats
💔 Severely abused & traumatized cats

So we need your help for:

🌿 2 gazebos, shaded, peaceful spaces
🏡 6 enclosures

⚠️ This video contains slightly graphic content, but this is the truth.

I’m opening the gate to a space we built just for donkeys like Marshall.

As this gate opens, my team is lifting him into his recovery area, and I wish I could say his story is rare, it isn’t 💔

Marshall was found by a young girl on her way to university, she saw him standing on the side of a busy road, day after day, no owner, no help, no one coming back for him.

This is what donkeys endure here.

They are treated like vehicles, not living beings, left tied in the sun for hours, beaten, overworked, and when they break, discarded.

Marshall’s hoof is crushed, the bones above it are shattered and hanging, sticks had been tied around his broken leg, wrapped in cloth that had likely been rotting for weeks, he was made to walk on it until he couldn’t anymore.

And when he collapsed, he was abandoned.

Often they are left on the road so a car will hit them, so it ends quickly, out of sight, out of mind, at the end of the day, no one takes responsibility.

Marshall 🤍 is now safe.

He’s getting,💊 treatment🏥 fluids and supplements for dehydration and malnourishment🧑‍⚕️ surgery once his body stabilizes ❤️‍🩹

Every step right now is about reducing infection, rebuilding his strength, and giving him a chance to heal properly.

We have nearly 90 donkeys with us, and most of them came in just like this, many go on to live long lives, even on three and a half legs.

Here, being alive is already a privilege, we just try to give them a life that feels like more than survival.

We want that for Marshall too.

If you’d like to help with his care, $35 or PKR 6,000 covers his daily needs.

You will not believe what Sophie looked like when she turned around 💔
But more than that, you will not believe what her story has turned into ✨

A forever home for 800 dogs 🐶✨

I don’t believe rescue dogs should be pitied,
and I don’t believe that if a dog isn’t adopted, he or she should spend their life in a cage, waiting to be chosen.

These are dogs who are deeply misunderstood in Pakistan.
They’ve been abused, poisoned, shot, strangled.
Many are missing a leg, an eye, an ear.
Every single one of them has been through something.

But here they are, wagging their tails, showing me every day how happy they are to be alive.

So instead of building a typical shelter, we’ve been building this quietly over the last few months.

A forever home for 800 dogs 🏡

It’s open, airy, with fans and mist systems for the heat,
pools, ponds, bridges, separate little houses depending on their personalities,
grooming stations so they can be bathed and cared for regularly.

We are THIS CLOSE to finishing the dog area.

We just need your help with three things:

🏗️ 3 shade structures
📡 1 electrical + solar system
🚿 2 grooming stations

And we can get this done.
We can move the remaining 360 dogs here 💪✨

What I chose to do with my anger over injustice.

I rescued Einstein last year, a soft, quiet boy with a neurological condition, he walks a little differently, a little slower, and I still don’t know how he survived the streets for as long as he did. When I first saw him, it didn’t just break my heart, it made me angry, the kind of anger that sits deep in your chest, because how does no one notice, how does no one see.

For 13 years of rescue, I have witnessed more injustice than I can put into words. Animals suffering is treated like it’s normal, like it’s just the way things are meant to be, and when they are safe, when they are happy, there is almost resistance to it. That anger built up over time, quietly, constantly.

And when I finally got the chance to build something of my own, I knew I didn’t want to recreate anything the streets had ever shown them. I wanted the opposite. A space built with nature in mind, with stillness, with quiet, with softness, away from noise, away from fear, a place where their nervous systems could finally rest. A place where they could just be.

So we designed and built these homes, thoughtfully, gently, every detail with them in mind.

And today, because of all of you, we reached our goal. We have moved 600 cats, cats who are fully recovered or close to it, into this space. Cats who have never known what it feels like to be safe, to have full bellies, to exist without fear.

This is what I chose to do with my anger. I turned it into something that could hold them.

Thank you for helping me build forever homes 🏡 🙏🏻for cats who have never had one, for giving them a life where peace is not a rarity, but now, their every day state of being ♥️

The world is a really ugly place… not the universe. The universe is beautiful. The man-made world, that’s the one that’s bad.

But when everything feels like it’s falling apart, you can always turn to animals and nature, and they remain the steadfast. Authentic, honest, untouched by all the noise. They are the truest thing in this very fickle world.

So here are a few moments captured, small glimpses of hope, of peace, of happiness… even for the 🐝, for whom we planted sunflowers 🌻

Just something gentle, something real, to hopefully brighten your feed a little in the middle of all this chaos.

Thank you for the photos 📸 🤍

This is a deep one.

I have never understood the idea that we should just spread awareness and wait… wait for people to become kinder while the victims of abuse continue to suffer every single day.

I can’t work like that. I don’t have it in me to sit back and hope. I need to get out there and change what I can, right now, in front of me.

In 13 years of rescue, I have helped over 35,000 animals, mostly dogs, and not once have I met a dog who was not afraid. That fear comes from people… from being chased, beaten, stoned, starved, poisoned, from living a life where you are unwanted and unsafe every single day 💔

It is not their fault they were born on the street.

I still hope people change… but I cannot build my work around waiting.

So I chose a different path.
I chose to give them a life NOW ✨

I am building real homes, open enclosures, kennels, trees for shade, feeding areas for 800 dogs… safe spaces where they can finally breathe.

But this is still a work in progress. Over 300 dogs are still waiting at our old shelter, and we have just 2 months to complete this 💪✨

Dogs like Alfie are why I cannot stop. He was found in a filthy water tank after being beaten so badly he couldn’t get out… and that became his only place of safety 😣

Instead of waiting for the world to change, I am building a small part of it differently.

Please be a part of that world 🌍
Please be a part of this little piece of heaven 🤍

Every single contribution matters 🙏🏻

They say behind every cynic, there’s a disappointed optimist, and my cynicism in the last few years has been taking a toll on me.

But when I got the opportunity to build this new sanctuary, I had a light bulb moment 💡 Either I can dive into darkness, or I can create a world, even if it’s the tiniest one, where justice is actually given, where freedom, happiness and differences are celebrated instead of weaponized, punished, and destroyed.

I have worked in animal markets in Karachi since COVID in 2020. I have tried to convince shopkeepers to just give birds water, but even that is considered a luxury because they say, “they dirty the cages because they splash around.” That sentence kept me in absolute horror, because that is what birds are meant to do.

So when the pressure came on me to build a whole new place, I knew it could not just be a regular shelter. It had to mean something deeper. I have used every awareness tool in the book 📕 by now, but this time I finally have the space to show people in Pakistan what happy animals actually look like in the hopes that they stop fuelling pet markets and the concept of cages.

Maybe behind that cynic, there is still a teeny tiny optimist left.

You may laugh that I am saving ducks and geese, but when you see the happiness at the end of this post, you might see things differently.

The truth is, no one is coming to hand us justice. You have to get up and create it yourself.

That is what I am doing with this sanctuary.

Our journey is not over. This is where we need you most. You can sponsor Marshall and Mindy and their little geese family, support the duck 🦆 area, or support the sanctuary as a whole. Every bit helps ✨Links to donate below ⬇️

Help me create this small nook in the world, a softer place, a gentler place, the kind of world we all wish we lived in, where there are no bombs, no fear…only peace and happiness.
