π Pregnancy Diagnosis in Queens (Cats) Using Ultrasonography π±π©Ί
Ultrasound is a safe, effective, and non-invasive tool for early pregnancy detection and fetal monitoring in queens.
π
When to Scan:
Day 15β17 post-mating: Gestational sacs may be visible.
Day 21β25: Ideal window to confirm pregnancy.
Day 28+: Fetal heartbeat and development become clearly visible.
𧬠Ultrasound Findings by Days:
Day 15β17: Small, anechoic gestational sacs appear in uterus.
Day 20β25: Embryos visible; heartbeat detectable.
Day 30β35: Limb buds, spinal cord, and fetal movement observed.
Day 40+: Further fetal development, organs visible, harder to count fetuses due to overlap.
π₯οΈ Ultrasound Details:
Probe: 7.5β10 MHz microconvex or linear transducer.
Approach: Transabdominal.
Position: Dorsal or lateral recumbency.
Scan Time: ~10β15 minutes.
β
Benefits:
Early confirmation of pregnancy
Monitoring of fetal viability and development
Differentiation from uterine diseases (e.g., pyometra)
β οΈ Limitations:
Not accurate for fetal counting (radiography is better after Day 42)
Small litter sizes or fetal resorption may affect diagnosis
Operator skill-dependent
Ultrasound remains the gold standard for early and safe pregnancy detection in feline reproductive practice. πΎ
