Dystocia means difficult birth. When the cat doesn't deliver the kitten within 24 hours of the first discharge you can call it dystocia, though the actual definition is different. If the gap between 2 kittens is greater than 6 hours and the cat is trying to push but unable to deliver that's also dystocia. It's not very common in cats, around 5% cats undergo dystocia at labor. If your cat has a history of dystocia then the chances of occurring the dystocia again are much higher.
The treatment of dystocia depends on multiple factors but you'll have to rush to the vet in any case. If the injection and drip, doesn't help in delivery then C-section is performed. The following picture shows the cat with his 5 alive kittens after the C-section performed by our team (in a clinical set up).
For any such cases call us immediately, and for other routine treatment, grooming, and surgeries, book an appointment. Ultrasound facility at the doorstep is also available.
