Tumor at Left HindPaw in a Bitch
Species: Canine
S*x: Female
Age: 5 years
Owner noticed a swelling on the Left hindpaw for about 3 weeks, gradually increasing in size.
The dog showed lameness and licking of the affected paw. No injury or previous treatment reported.
A firm, round mass (~3 cm) on the lateral side of the left hindpaw.
Slightly warm and painful on palpation.
No ulceration or discharge.
Vital signs within normal range.
Suspected fibrous tumor of the paw (neoplastic growth).
/ Surgical Protocol
Fasting: 12 hours before surgery.
Pre-medication: Xylazine 1 mg/kg IM.
Anesthesia: Ketamine 5 mg/kg + Diazepam 0.5 mg/kg IV.
Site clipped and prepared aseptically.
Elliptical incision given around the mass with 1–2 cm safety margin.
Tumor completely excised.
Hemostasis achieved and wound lavaged.
Suturing: Catgut (subcuticular) and nylon (skin).
Sterile dressing and bandage applied.
Ceftriaxone 25 mg/kg IV daily × 5 days.
Meloxicam 0.2 mg/kg IM × 3 days.
Daily antiseptic dressing.
E-collar applied.
Sutures removed after 10–12 days.
Wound healed well with no recurrence during follow-up. Dog returned to normal gait within 2 weeks.
