PARVO ALERT! 🩸

We’ve seen a spike in Parvovirus cases this week. Please be extra cautious with your pets! 🥺

Vaccination is the best protection. Don’t delay! 💪🏼
Come visit us at Don Alfaro Street, Tetuan, Zamboanga City. 🤗

DECODING YOUR PET’S VOMITING AND DIARRHEA

This post is especially dedicated to pet owners. Kaya kung may alaga kang a*o o pusa, may you have the patience to read this. 🤗

“Doc, pa-reseta lang ako. Yung pet ko, nagsusuka at nagtatae.”

As a science-based doctor, of course you would tell the owner to bring the pet to the clinic to get the complete history, run diagnostic tests, and most likely, insert an IV fluid to correct dehydration, discuss further treatment plans, and maybe surgery if needed. 🤔

“Grabe, Doc. Di ka makapag-reseta. Sa pet shop ni XYZ, binibentahan kami ng metoclopramide at SMP tapos wala pang consultation fee!”

Then the worst part: they leave a Google or Facebook review about your clinic saying, “Walang alam at incompetent,” “Pera-pera lang,” “Walang awa,” “Beware of this clinic,” “I don’t recommend,” and so on and so forth.

As a pet owner, especially if you don’t have any medical background, please know that vomiting and diarrhea are non-specific signs of a disease. 🧐

Do you know the common signs of Parvovirus, Coronavirus, Giardiasis, Canine Distemper, parasitic, and bacterial GI infections? Yup… vomiting and diarrhea.

What about dietary indiscretion because you fed spoiled food or abruptly changed your pet’s diet? Correct… vomiting and diarrhea.😓

When you accidentally feed chocolate, or they access pesticides or other toxic substances? Opo, magaling.. vomiting and diarrhea. 🫣

How about intestinal obstruction caused by foreign bodies (i.e., bones, toys) or tumors? Darling, you’re right, you will also observe vomiting and diarrhea. 😱

Some hormonal imbalances like hyperthyroidism in older cats and Addison’s disease in dogs can also present with vomiting and diarrhea.😶‍🌫️

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and pancreatitis in cats? Yes again, vomiting and diarrhea. 🫡

While vomiting and diarrhea are oftentimes brushed off by owners as simple signs, sometimes they’re just the tip of the iceberg. A thorough history and physical assessment, along with carefully chosen diagnostic tests, can help your vet understand the bigger picture. 🫢

Only then can we give a proper prognosis and tailor treatment based on what your pet needs and how willing and able you are to cooperate throughout the course of treatment. 😉

And take note, I’m only talking about vomiting and diarrhea. What more if we dive into topics like “kagid,” “hindi kumakain,” or “lagnat”?🫣

I hope this gives you a better understanding of our point of view before you bash your veterinarian or refuse to bring your pet in for a check-up and diagnostic work-up. 🫠

That’s it for now.

‘Til my next post.

Happy pet keeping! 🫶🏽

FELINE PARVO SEASON ALERT

Be a responsible cat parent!

Huwag pong kalimutan, 5n1 and Rabies vaccines save lives! 💚

Huwag pong kalimutan, 5n1 and Rabies vaccines save lives! 💚

DON’T SAY “NEXT TIME” TO RABIES AND 5-N-1 VACCINES

“Doc, rabies lang po ipaturok ko sa puppy, kasi ‘di naman po ‘yan pinapalabas ng bahay.”

“Huwag na muna yung 5-in-1, dagdag gastos lang. Tumagal naman mga askal namin kahit walang ganyan.”

I often hear these from pet owners who don’t see the value of the 5-in-1 vaccine at our clinic.

1. Distemper – Maaaring magdulot ng seizures, brain damage, o kamatayan.

2. Hepatitis (CAV-1) – Biglaan at malalang liver failure at internal bleeding.

3. Leptospirosis – Nagdudulot ng kidney at liver failure. Zoonotic o nakakahawa sa tao.

4. Parainfluenza – Malalang ubo, kasama sa kennel cough complex.

5. Parvovirus – Bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and death without intensive treatment.

6. Rabies – Zoonotic, walang lunas at palaging nakakamatay.

So bilang pet owner, handa ka bang hintayin magkasakit ang alaga mo bago kumilos?

Handa ka bang malagay sa alanganin ang iyong kapamilya, kapatid, kapuso, and your own health?

Umaabot ng ₱15,000–₱50,000, depende sa lala, with no guarantee of survival.

Sa Zamboanga City, may apat na tao ang namatay suspected of rabies in the first quarter pa lang of 2025. Scary!

Take this as a sign to check your pets’ records and update their vaccination.

And kung nasa Zamboanga City po kayo, alam nyo na saan dadalhin ang mga alaga nyo, syempre sa Cassa de Perro Veterinary Clinic (Tumaga) or sa Eastcoast Pet Care Services (Tetuan). Ahemm, shameless plug bc why not?! 😉😅

Let’s vaccinate, walk the talk, and be responsible pet owners. Kaya natin ‘to! 💪

I JUST GRADUATED TODAY!

Hi, I’m Argaux, and I’ve completed my core cat vaccinations today.

Did you know that aside from rabies, us cats in the Philippines also need the feline panleukopenia (FPV), feline viral rhinotracheitis (FHV-1), and feline calicivirus (FCV) vaccines?

You can start our vaccinations as early as 6 weeks old at Cassa de Perro Veterinary Clinic. Let’s stay healthy and live our best lives together. 🩵

MALE CAT URETHRAL OBSTRUCTION ALERT

We’ve noticed an increase in male cats experiencing urethral obstruction, often linked to stress during mating sea*on, infections, or dietary factors.

If you have a male cat at home, keep an eye on his litter box habits. Straining to urinate or frequent trips to the box may indicate an issue. Gently palpate the bladder to check for signs of discomfort. If your cat is unable to pass urine for an extended period, it’s a medical emergency and requires immediate attention.

This condition can be life-threatening, and we've seen cases where cats have tragically passed away due to delayed treatment. Don’t wait and if in doubt, bring your cat to the clinic as soon as possible.

PARVO SEASON ALERT 🚨

We’re seeing a significant rise in Canine Parvovirus cases, and our canine ward is almost full. Please ensure that your dogs are fully vaccinated and keep them indoors, away from potentially infected animals.

If your dog is unvaccinated and showing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea (loose or bloody), loss of appetite, and lethargy, bring them to our clinic immediately. We are one of the few clinics in the city that offer confinement for sick pets.

Stay vigilant, stay responsible!
